My DS has just finished his GCSE's and we have found out we will be moving, the place we are going only has an IB school, has anyone faced this and can offer me their thoughts and any information. Very very stressed about the whole thing.

TimTam, if you haven't already, check things out here:http://www.ibo.org/ibcc/ - for the Certificate and here for the Diploma: http://www.ibo.org/diploma/ Have a look at the IB school your DS would be going to from the IBorg site, as well. My child changed systems a year earlier than your DS and successfully completed the IB Diploma with only 1 IGCSE (in English) to her name. She's been successful in her applications to UK unis in the subjects she wants to study and after a gap year, is starting a degree course in September. We're inordinately proud of her! edited by simpleasabc on 15/06/2014

DS school is IGCSE till grade 11 then changes to IB. All students cope very well as a lot are from various countries therefore is probably better for them. He does IBCC which suits him and has done work experience at Intercontinental Hotel, Hilton Hotel and Ski Dubai. Hence thinks it's great.

Jess does this. Its a heavier workload but some schools do this and so its not impossible. Just hard work. X

Have you considered perhaps sending your child to boarding school to finish A-levels instead of doing IB? IB curriculum in the senior years is very demanding and a totally different style of learning to what your child is used to...

Don't stress - don't have first hand experience but it wouldn't concern me as long as the IB school have a good reputation? This may help: http://www.godolphinandlatymer.com/_files/08DB1C8D19E202C8F231FE566A9FC014.pdf http://www.sevenoaksschool.org/the-ib http://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/showthread.php?t=1947435 http://whichschooladvisor.com/guides/ib-vs-a-level-a-wsa-faq/

It will be fine! A lot of "international" children go from the UK Curriculum to the IB one after GCSE's. If the IB Diploma workload is too heavy for your son (depending on how academic he is), IB schools now also offer the Certificate, which is less demanding but is still recognized for university entrance purposes in the UK, certainly. If you are from Australia, as I surmise from your user-name, the IB Diploma is extremely well-regarded and recognised for entry into Australian universities. The transition at that stage is not too difficult at all, although the children need to have an independent work ethic and be self-motivated to really benefit from the IB methods of teaching, in my experience. Good luck! edited by simpleasabc on 15/06/2014
