All I will say is that if it is a tear the sooner you have it repaired the better. I had 6 lots of physio first as we thought it was muscle related and we'll now never know if that made it worse or not. Off for my first physio session this morning ?

Great news it went well GE! I will get my MRI results in August so will see what happens next but the Dr wants me to try physio before surgery which is not approved until I have the actual results. Rest up while you can and I can only imagine you will definitely need more than 2 weeks off before you go back to work especially since it sounds like the surgery was more complicated than originally thought.

Thanks for the update GE, can you give us an update after your surgery as I am wondering how long the healing process/down time will be as I can't take too much time off work and I my job is physically demanding. I am off to see Dr Andreas today and I am guessing I will have the MRI in the next couple of days. Good luck with your surgery. Hi skyhighgirl Just to let you know surgery went well, although it took nearer to three hours than the two we thought. As far as recovery goes it will probably depend on exactly what you have repaired. As my tear was right on top of the biceps muscle it hurts like **** and I have to keep my arm out at a slight angle to let the rotator cuff settle. I was given a sick note for two weeks and yes I need it, there is no way I could think of going back to work at the moment. Just waiting for the physio approval now and then we will see what happens, although I have some gentle exercises to start with. If you want to know anything else I'll be more than happy to talk to you. Also Dr Nojoomi is a lovely man and I was so pleased I went with my first instinct about him.

Thanks for the reassurance. I am looking forward to it, in the hope that once I'm fit again this pain will just go away, but obviously apprehensive about the op. I don't mind the three weeks of not driving, but I'm hoping to get back to work earlier. Three weeks in the house would drive me nuts ;)

Best wishes for Saturday. You'll be fine. I'm so pleased you saw Dr. Nojoomi as he is so nice. My surgery went very well, as I mentioned below and he was very caring. He even gave me a nerve block so the pain wouldn't be as bad, and it was administered once I was under so I didn't feel it. I was in hospital overnight following the op then off work (with no driving) for 3 weeks. Just be careful when going out and wear your sling thingie so people know you have an injury. I'll be thinking of you - but know you are in safe hands.

Hi GE, Saw Dr Andreas, he was good but it was a very rushed appointment either because he was running very late with appointments or perhaps it was because he was going on holidays the next day. I feel he didn't really listen to the issues I was describing properly and he was already asking the nurse to prep the next patient as soon as I sat down. He did an ultrasound and he thinks it's just a torn biceps tendon not rotator cuff. I had to get approval from ins company for MRI which only came through today but I'm away until the end of the month so MRI scheduled for start of August. Good luck for Saturday!

Can anyone suggest someone for me please. I'm off for an MRI tomorrow as my current doctor says I have rotator/cuff problems and an impingement. He thinks that there could also be a spurr of bone catching the tendon!!! Dr Anastasia at California Chiropractic and Sport medicine center....DHCC http://www.californiachiropracticcenter.com/ Saw her for the same thing I would also recommend Dr Anastasia at CCSM Center, she is excellent

Stitches out after two weeks, can't drive for three weeks minimum, start physio immediately and the rest will probably depend on how physically demanding your role is. Keep in touch and let me know how you get on. Good luck.

Hi Geordie Expat, How did you like Dr Andreas? Hope you're feeling better :) Morning. I ended up seeing Dr Njoomi at the Meadows Mediclinic as he was around when I went for my results yesterdy. He is such a lovely man, told me exactly what my problems were even before I could speak or he had seen the MRI! End result is I'm off to hospital on 19th for keyhole surgery to repair the tear (if it's not too bad) and have a spurr removed from the bone. Delightful !!!

I have seen a fantastic doctor at Welcare Ibn. I honestly dont remember his name I just call up and ask for an appointment with the "back doctor". He's the only one there. Specialises in shoulders, back, knees and feet. He told me what my results would be before I went for an MRI and he was spot on.

Hi Geordie Expat, How did you like Dr Andreas? Hope you're feeling better :) Haven't seen anyone yet, just had the MRI and will get the results on Saturday. To be honest I may try and see Dr Njoomi then too as he is based at the same clinic. I will keep you informed though.

Hi GE I had this exact same shoulder surgery with Dr. Njoomi about two and a half years ago. He is lovely and I would highly recommend him. I've been back to Arabian Ranches Clinic, where I first saw him, a few times since to see other Drs and he has always stopped to ask me how I am and called me by name. I really like and trust him. You will be fairly incapacitated for a while. I was off work for 3 weeks and lots of physio for about 6 months. I feel your pain. Having been there! edited by Thaiger on 01/07/2014

Of course I will. At the moment, if he offered to stick a hugh needle in my shoulder, even without anaesthetic, to make the pain go away I would happily say yes!

GE, if you see Dr Andreas can you let me know how it goes as I have an appointment with him on Sunday and I may also need surgery for a bicep tendon tear and rotator cuff of the shoulder but I do not want surgery unncessarily if I can help it. TIA. edited by skyhighgirl on 01/07/2014

I see Dr Andreas at Mediclinic Dubai Mall and I highly recommend him, he has a very nice manner about him and was spot on with his diagnosis of my flat foot, shoulder pain and minor scoliosis. He also did a chiropractic adjustment for me and was fantastic. That's where I'm off to in the morning for the MRI. Thanks.

Thanks. I'll see what tomorrow brings and then take it from there. Not a happy bunny at the thought of an MRI and then perhaps surgery, but hey that's what comes of getting old :( edited by Geordie expat on 01/07/2014

Burjeel Hospital is a specialised centre purely for joint care and orthopaedics. It has a 'Department of Shoulder & Sports Orthopaedics' & is generally very good. (044070100)

I think I might have a similar problem, I saw Dr Kazim last year for a foot problem and I was not impressed, even one of his own physio personnel said I should seek a second opinion. Dr Andreas at Mediclinic has been recommended to me and I will be seeing him next week for my shoulder/bicep injury, I cant give a recommendation myself though until I see him.
