Morning All,

At 9 weeks of age, my son has suddenly developed very dry skin (confirmed not eczema). I was using Mustela products but never found their cream very moisturising. Read a lot of great reviews about the Aveeno products for babies online. Has anyone purchased the products recently in Dubai as I haven't come across anywhere that sells them (know previous threads have mentioned pharmacies but still haven't come across a pharmacy that stocks the line).

If not, any recommendations on any other good creams for babies?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Both my girls had dry skin when tiny babies. For the first i was v natural mum...no soaps, no creams, no wipes, nothing that mother nature didn't supply her with, and her skin got so dry it would crack and bleed so i had to intervene for her comfort. For the second, i'm being realistic and using cream or oil as and when needed. My first outgrew the dry skin and i assume the second will as well. Our doc gave Mustela Stelatopia (a lightish moisturising cream) and Eumocream (a very heavy one). Neither of which i have anything positive or negative to say. You might have to try a few to see which works for your baby's skin. I also used extra virgin olive oil, but that didn't help in my case.

the baby aveeno products are awesome. I used to be able to buy them from the pharmacy opposite the nail spa in ibn Battuta. highly highly recommend them.

Coconut oil is the best for dry skin even on babies.....just that my kids used to get darker when applied coconut oil....... I used to use almond oil and olive oil.mixed together which made my babies skin moisturizer n smooth. I have always liked baby sebamed products...and sometimes the blue nivea cream too. Actually, entirely depends on how ur kids skin reacts to each product. I agree not to use any soap or baby wash till 6 months...I always used to give a tub bath to my kids with milk added in water or even run the skin with plain curd in place of soap and then wash with lukewarm water....though it leaves smell but is very good for dry skin.. U need to try out few things to make u clear on what suits ur baby's skin edited by pearl13 on 20/08/2014

Well tbh I'd use it now that I know what benefits I've had from it personally! But I just didn't want to recommend since the op seemed to be looking for a specific cream. And btw, my kid did ingest coconut oil and numerous other things lol, he was just fine

Cherpie, just wondering why you would worry about sensitivity from coconut oil? It's completely natural with nothing added. I much prefer putting plain oil on my baby's skin than a product with an ingredients list a mile long. Obviously in your baby's case he had a problem diagnosed so specialist products may have been needed but unless there is a professionally diagnosed problem then I don't understand why people load their baby's delicate skin with so many products. Skin is a living organ, why unnecessarily use soaps, powders and creams on it when it's really not needed? My general rule when my babies are young is if I wouldn't eat it I wouldn't put it on their skin. Don't get me started on baby wipes....... :D

My son had dry skin too but I don't think quite that early... Where is yr baby's dry skin, all over? Mine ended up getting diagnosed with a pigmentation issue. Over the counter I used eucerin too because it was un scented, although I did not find it thick enough. One from Carrefour was ok, bubchen I think, but I ended up having to get something industrial strength that I forgot the name of. I myself suffer from dry skin and have recently started using coconut oil with great results, but I'd be a bit hesitant to use it on an infant just because so small the skin is more sensitive and I don't know if there are any effects at that age. And definitely agree no need to bathe daily at that age, a sponge bath should suffice at least until the dryness gets resolved.

Aveeno's US facebook page gives this number for the region: 00971 4 4297377 Alternatively, have you tried just using coconut oil? I find coconut oil the best as it is one of the closest oils to the skin's natural sebum. Massage it in all over or just where needed. Jojoba oil is also very good but coconut oil is much easier to find here. Are you using any soaps, foams or cleansers on your baby in the bath? If so, stop using them as they can be very drying on delicate young skin. At nine weeks all your baby needs to be washed with is water. Getting a water filter may also help, I use H20 Pure Blue filters in our bathrooms and find they make a big difference. If you are bathing your baby everyday bathing less frequently may help. I agree with Daza, very dry skin on a 9 week old baby is not the norm, you need to look for the cause as well as the cure. I also agree re using the soaps/ cleansers for any baby this young but especially if the skin is dry. edited by Genie on 19/08/2014

Eucerin has a great moisturiser that is just as good as Aveeno. Boots pharmacy should have it. Its specifically for skin affected by psoriasis and eczema. If you want to order online one of my friends orders all her vitamins and products from http://www.iherb.com/ They should have Aveeno or something similar in the Kids section.
