Just wondering if anyone knows of any support in Dubai for children with Tourette Syndrome, my 8 year old son was diagnosed a year ago and recently has had an explosion of tic's, both vocal and motor. Also any recommendations of doctors specialising in this condition would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance

Gem, Did you check out this thread, there's a couple ladies who mention that their sons have tourettes. Maybe you could get in touch if they are still around. http://www.expatwoman.com/forum/topic175698-tourettes-syndrome.aspx

Thank you for your reply, much appreciated. We have been seeing a neurologist for last year but I don't feel I get any answers or suggestions on how to cope with it. As a parent it is painful to watch my son tic so bad and I do feel very much in the dark. I worry he is going to be picked on as he is in a new class this year and has speech difficulties, just want to find support so that he is happy. I think I will definitely look into another clinic, thank you for the link, definitely need someone more specialised with children. Also the newspaper article was great, reassuring to know my son isn't the only person affected in Dubai, maybe I could somehow get in touch, so will look into that. Thanks again

Gem I found this article, not sure whether it is worth you writing to the journalist and asking if you could contact the lady in the article and see who she has managed to see here. Also consider asking your GP who they recommend for a child neurologist here who may be able to help. Also look up support groups in other countries that may be able to help and advise where to go if you are in a position to travel. I'm sure the US and UK would have some specialists you could go and see. http://www.thenational.ae/uae/health/emirati-woman-tells-of-the-curse-of-tourettes-syndrome It may be worth contacting the http://www.americanchildneurologyuae.ae/ as well. https://www.facebook.com/ACNCUAE edited by Lolacat on 20/08/2014
