Hi all

Ive left all of my baking equipment in the UK and now that i have started baking again, instantly regret this decision. Where can i get cheap enough basics e.g seives, electric whisk, bowl, measuring cups...i know of tavola and Lakeland but if anyone knows of anywhere cheaper or knows somebody wanting to sell or give away please let me know.
Thanks :)

cream of tartar is available here - I found it at Megamart glass measuring cups and mixing bowls are widely available in various hypermarkets for reasonable prices not familiar with using unbleached paper in baking, is it like parchment paper or wax paper? (both available here) I use a knife to cut my sandwiches or are you making fancy shapes?

The other place to try is Al Rawnaq on airport road. It has lots of houseware stuff. Hit and miss for what you get but always worth a try. You want to turn right when you get in (so not the stationary side).

Hi Scc1, When I moved to Qatar (mid June 2014), I was in the same position. I had left all my lovely baking equipments back in my home country but I love to bake and do it very often. I also did not want to invest heavily on the baking equipments as I know while going back I would not take them back with me. Long story short, I found a couple of items here and there which are really really cheap but always remember you get what you pay for. Although these things are not that great in quality, they have done their job perfectly till now. I got some cookie sheets from Carrefour for QR 7 each. They are Carrefour brand only. Next I got some loaf pans from Al Meera again QR 7 each. They are Al Meera brand. They are I think 295mm X 155mm X 41mm. You can get some basic pans, bowls, whisks (not electrical, just hand held) and measuring cups from Daiso in Hayatt Plazza again QR 7 each. For electrical whisk you can go for a hand mixer for less than QR 100 in most of the supermarkets, but I have an eye on Kenwood Prospero for QR 1300 in Lulu/Carrefour but have not yet decided that i will buy it or not. If you do not find these things suitable for your need like sizes or any other ways, then you can always buy the disposable aluminium foil ones in supermarkets like Lulu or Carrefour. Like for cupcakes you can use the disposable aluminium small bowls they have etc. If someone has bought any other baking related things then please share your inputs here. i am always in lookout for these things. Happy baking. edited by happy_feet on 18/09/2014

Not a great baker myself but upstairs in Dar Al Salam Mall there is a shop that sells all of this stuff that you want- not too sure of prices but it always looks lovely in a Great British Bake off kind of way !

I don't know if it is cheap or not, but "Tavola" for sure has lots of things. you might try to see what they have in Carrefour at ground floor - which is for sure cheeper but not specialised - and then go to Tavola for the specialised things you can't find at Carrefour. I saw measuring cups at Lulu Hypermarket. plastic bowls are rare stuff - never saw one. A neighbour of mine bought a mixer and received an egg beater as a gift!
