Lloyds was sold to hsbc so that won't be an option any more. We did one through Emirates nbd but it wasn't on arrival as company stopped doing advances without notice so we were caught short.

salsB, we were offered it in previous years/moves 2005 & 2009 but now, for exactly the reasons you say, they're not advancing anything. We closed our bank account when we left, so will need to open new. Not a huge fan of HSBC - so looking at Citibank or Lloyds this time.

Try your own bank first. Does your company loan offer you a interest free loan and you pay it back monthly. My DH company at the time offered this, it was a godsend when we originally moved there in 2008. Im not to sure if companies offer this now, as too many people up'd and left, leaving a mountain of debt.

Advice from anyone who has done this please? What bank? And were you able to do it as a new arrival? Sheesh, it's so much harder now that companies aren't advancing housing...
