Hi ladies

I was wondering if anyone knew of any support groups which exist in Dubai for people that suffer with depression and anxiety?

It seems taboo to talk about out here, and the private hospitals don't offer a **** of a lot of support for sufferers, also medication is so highly controlled.

Has anyone experienced this out here?

I can also second Dr Amer, I ve been suffering pretty much my whole life with anxiety / depression & he is the best I ve found anywhere, genuinely caring & knows his stuff. It's a wee bit expensive 400/500 per session & the session s don't last very long which would be my only complaint, but as someone else said, there was a time I was in a but of a mess financially and he did nt charge! Well worth a visit, Best of luck x

There's a new online support group for people with issues like depression and anxiety. Once you become a member you can post your problem anonymously, and other members who've experienced similar issues can post replies. Everyday a counseling psychologist goes online and gives expert advice. It won't replace therapy or treatment, but it's free and a good community service I think. Hi there dont despair !! there is a great Doctor at Dubai Community Health his name is Dr Amer he is amazing and I cannot recommend him enough http://www.dubaicommunityhealthcentre.org/infopages.php?page=16 Birchy do you know of his costs? It's between 4 and 600 - depending on your circumstances - he's not particularly in it for the money and is willing to accommodate cases of people in genuine financial hardship Per session? Can it be put through insurance?! Although AXA are terrible, I will have to get a referral from a doctor to go and see one! No referral needed and yes you can claim through insurance, although it is on reimbursement basis. Dr Amr is amazing and I would not be here today if not for him, I have recommended a number of people who have been seen by him also and they also cannot fault him.

Best wishes I didn't like the physician there - he spent all of my insurance doing useless MRI scans, liver scans etc - all in his own clinic which were totally un-needed. I'd rather go to Amer Saaeddin who is lovely, genuine, accommodating and affordable.

Lifeworks has some wonderful counselors not sure if they do group session though. They do teach mindfulness and mediation which are great for stress and anxiety.
