I'm really hoping someone may have experienced something similar to me and can offer some kind of solution. I have been suffering with neck and shoulder problems for over 8 years now. I have been treated by 5 different chiropractors on an almost monthly basis and I am still in pain. I have even given up work now hoping that taking it easier would help but it hasn't. I have tried exercising, not exercising, yoga, swimming, physio etc. Nothing makes a difference long term. I am only 32 so I really don't want to take painkillers/anti inflammatories for the rest of my life. I had x rays taken a few years ago but they didn't show anything nasty. I know lots of people suffer and put up with far worse medical conditions but being in chronic mild pain 5 out of 7 days a week is really starting to get me down.

Hi, good luck with your treatment, I had a very similar thing to you about 15 years ago, I had traction and acupuncture along with physio, it did eventually resolve, best of luck. nothing worse than continual pain like that.

I see dr sean miner at california chiropractic center in healthcare city, he is v good with neck issues. i also see kris there who has shown me exercises i can do a home which really help. and one other thing i find very good for me, i bought this roller thing from there and its used for the neck, its amazing releases lot of the knots in my neck. think its called a t roller...i now dont have any pain what so ever but continue with my exercise and using my roller and that seems to be enough for me. maybe try them there, it seem like a very common problem and they know what they doing. all the best...hope you get it sorted.

Guess you should just try moxibustion! I had also pain from my neck to shoulder after I deliver my second child.I realise no matter which position I keep ( standing or sitting even lying ), after a certain time, I start to feel pain in my neck to the shoulder. Thanks god I met Dr. Li working in Emirates european medical center, I couldn't believe it could go away as I've tries phythothrapy, chropratic and strong massage everywhere, he did for me acupuncture and then taught me how to use moxibustion. only after one month! I dont have the pain any more, feel so grateful !

Bythesea, has anyone suggested it could be Fibromyalgia ? My sister suffers with it and her symptoms are similar to what you describe.

I all, don't know if you'll pick this up but yesterday I had an MRI and I finally have a diagnosis! I have cervical spondylosis. My neck is completely straight instead of being curved which has caused compression of the discs which are starting to bulge. There is no quick fix but I now have a treatment plan for the next 6 to 12 weeks which includes physio therapy and traction. It's a shame it took my 5th medical expert to find this but at least it's been found before the discs bulged further and pressed into my spinal cord which would result in more complications. It will be a long slow recovery but at least now I have hope for a pain free future.

Try vitamin D for sure and then The Osteopathic centre helped me when I was going through something similar. They showed me these really small movements that made a whole world of difference. Additionally you can also try acupuncture. Hope you feel better soon.

Dr Nojoomi at Meadows Mediclinic is an Ortho surgeon who specialises in shoulders. He repaired my rotator cuff last year along with other issues and I'm now having physiotherapy at the same clinic. I have similar problems which come from me having bad posture for years. The shoulder op was a great success and the physiotherapy for that is now also helping to strengthen all the muscles I have let go to waste over the years. PS you won't need a referral to him either :) edited by Geordie expat on 26/01/2015

For something like that, I'd head straight to the specialists at the Neuro-Spinal hospital and have an MRI and a CAT scan done. These will show far more details than an x-ray. It could be all sorts, trapped nerves, spinal compression, muscular. You can see a GP for a referral first if your insurance requires it, or just go straight there. Agree, go straight to a GOOD GP and seek a referral to a specialist. Also Up and Running, Dr Anna.

Try Olga at Jumeirah GMC...I had a bad shoulder for a long time and she sorted it out, she does some weird stuff and it hurts like mad, but it seemed to work! I was once persuaded to see her, and yes it was excruitating! Cannot say I felt any better aferwards either. OP go to a doctor first and get diagnosed before trying out alternative therapies, because they may have worked for the person who swears by them but your case could be different.

I have similar problem as you and have been suffering for about 6 years. Did my x-rays & MRI both not showing any cause for the pain. Spent couple of years with Osteopath, physios, acupuncturists all of them did provide relief for a short length of time only. What helped me immensely was getting a personal trainer and strengthening the weak muscles in my neck and shoulder. Still have relapses with the pain but its not as bad as before. My pain is still there but so far this is what seems to work for me. There are days the pain just gets me into depression. Hope you find what works for you.

Did the doctors you visited ever get your vitamin D level checked? ... my sister had real low vitamin D and she would get neck and shoulder pains and a full blown migraine after a strenuous day ... Vitamin D is what helps bones absorb calcium... although i agree that you should get an MRI and CAT done but maybe getting to know your vitamin D level is a good idea.. Hope you get well soon...

Have you had MRI's done? Maybe see a Head & Neck specialist physician, rather than the going the chiropractor route. There is an excellent one at Dubai American Hospital, he would look at all scenarios and not only an orthopaedic one. Chronic pain is very debilitating and depressing, don't give up until you get some answers.
