As Dubai is in the news and papers so often I am shocked that there are so many ignorant people around.

Also you have to cover your head in public as a woman. The men here don't like women  Women aren't allowed to work.

That everyone is rich, all women spend their days having mani pedis in between sunbathing. Everyone has designer shoes and handbags. You can't drink alcohol. They chop hands off there and then for stealing and all expats must be accustomed to seeing this in daily life! Oh and it's near Saudi

That we all live in 10 bedroom mansions on the beach with live-in drivers, maids and chefs There is a beach in Dubai? I thought it was in the desert? Near the Sahara right? :) I once jumped in a cab in Sydney and after a bit of a natter he asked me where I lived, when I said Dubai his head swiveled around and with huge eyes said to me with excitement "Wheres your burka, love?'

Some of my parents' friends still think that you can't drink alcohol here despite my mum telling them she's never seen so many bars

That's more along the lines of what I meant, about the restrictions and women. Multiple wives often come up in the conversations also. Unfortunately I find I don't elaborate very well.

Earlier when Dubai was not that popular yet, I have friends back home asking me "How's Saudi?"....they have that impression or conception that Dubai back then was part of Saudi ..yay! I have gotten that question too! "What part of Saudi Arabia is Dubai in?" Lol In my case, everyone who lives here is weird. I am already considered weird by my family. When they found out that "normal" people live here, they were surprised!
