A relative's UK license has expired and she is thinking of trying to get one in Dubai - by taking a test here. She is over 70. She does not have a UK address to renew that one at the present time. Any ideas what she could do? She does not need to drive much - just potter. Thanks

I think it is 75 That is the max age usually for car rentals and I think the RTA match that for new licenses. Anyway, 40 classes and a pass, they have to give a license , no?

Also, she will need sponsor's permission for her license - in case that will be an issue in any way.

I would also look into whether she can get motor vehicle insurance and if so what the cost would be. I would expect that most insurance companies would start loading premiums for drivers 70 years and over. Just a thought should the expense pose a problem.

I believe they will also ask for a copy of medical fitness while applying for the driving license. Just check with some driving school for the exact procedure.

I think as long as she passes the eye test it's possible.

I would call the driving schools and ask. I have never heard of there being an age restriction to learn ( except for the younger ones)
