Thanks to all the kind ladies who replied. I have actually brought my father to UAE , he will stay with me for few months. Can anybody recommend any specialist (endocrinologist etc) who actually would care for clients and gives individual attention and care to patients??? I have taken him to some specialists and hated the way they deal clients. Hardly gives 5-10 mins, without trying to know history, medicines used. This is why I am asking recommendations of Someone who gives proper care. I don't mind if its is expensive etc. Thanks again !!! edited by smartee on 18/04/2015

If it is a foot infection that doesn't heal, take him to an Endocrinologist. They are the "diabetes specialists". He'll make necessary referrals because a wound that does not heal is not just a skin problem. It has to do with his blood sugar, which is why there is slow healing. Good luck! Bring him to the doctor right away.

His GP or Diabetes specialist should be your first port of call. However, I read somewhere that Sugar and honey has been used in dressings to help heal wounds especially in Diabetics so it may also be worth contacting a Naturopath or similar for complimentary medicine too. ..... Don't just use sugar, it would need to be a medical grade product without other contaminants.

Thank you everyone. Unfortunately, my father lives back in my home country, I have not seen his wound my self. I was told very late and now I am flying specially to take him to some specialists as he doesn't care much about his health. I don't know which route I should take, checking with a GP and then for Endocrinologist or directly go to Endocrinologist?. His diabetes is always controlled, and he is active person.....I believe it is diabetes related foot ulcer....but I wish its just normal wound. You have answered the problem, he does not care about his health much. Diabetic wounds need good nursing, with the help of his GP see if you can get on top of treating the wound. I would go to his GP and speak to the gP directly and see what the GP says and what /who else is available to help with the wound. You may find the GP has done everything correct but your father is just not following the advice and taking the issue seriously, this is very common in older patients. Here are some links to help re wound management, much you can do, it all comes down to a good DP/Doctor and good nursing. Good luck. http://www.webmd.com/diabetes/features/diabetes-wounds-caring-sores http://www.webmd.com/a-to-z-guides/wound-care-10/diabetic-wounds http://www.patient.co.uk/health/diabetes-foot-care-and-foot-ulcers

Smartee, if you suspect that it's diabetes related, then the specialist you need to see is an endocrinologist. They can then refer you to other specialists as required. All the best to your father and please do get it checked out. From personal experience, early detection with diabetes related symptoms is very important.

A dermatologist would be the wrong specialist to see. You need a GP. It's very likely to be diabetes related so don't leave it for too long.

I can recommend DR Sue Norton, GP at Dubai Physiotherapy and Family Medicine Centre in the Town Centre Mall on the Beach Rd. She is excellent and will send you to the right specialist if she thinks it necessary.

Dermatologists deal will all types of skin problems so it may be worth googling some to see if any deal with wounds specifically. Does he have a specialist for his diabetes, they may be able to help?
