Hi all,

Can anyone help...I am UK qualified psychiatric nurse and I am about to submit my application for my DHCC license. I've been informed that I have to complete a Prometric Test before I can submit. The laws have recently changed in Feb 2015 which means all nursing applicants must pass the test.

I have researched and looked and some sample exams and they seem very general orientated and by that I mean General Nursing. As I am specialised and trained In psychiatry I am slightly worried that my general/physical nursing knowledge base won't be enough to pass?!?

If anyone has sat this exam recently could you please give me a heads up on what is likely to be included? I should point out that the job I have been offered is as a psychiatric nurse in a clinic And I will not be offering specialised physical health care as part of my role.

I would be really greatful if someone has any advice regarding this!

Thank you!

Hi Zara, Thanks for your response. Oh that's a shame to hear about your registration! As soon as I arrived in Dubai I applied for my DHA license which took FOREVER and yes the whole process was extremely frustrating! Unfortunately I now need a DHCC licence and the DHA is not relevant. Before Feb this year all UK trained nurses were exempt from the exam however following the Arab health the law has changed! I have seen the NCLEX been mentioned a few times so I will try that and practice, I just feel a lot of the content in the exam is not relevant to my training and experience hence why I am worried about it. Thanks again for your response :)

Hi Lucky89! I sat the prometric in 2012 and passed, although Im not practising as a nurse here and didn't obtain my license. The test was very general with a bit of everything i.e. obstetrics, gynae, medicine, psych etc. If you do a search on here you will find a list of topics which have come up and it was very reliable back then. I used nclex for revision and a lot of practice tests and questions which came up online when I did a search. My biggest hurdle was the NMC who insisted on posting everything to the DHA which ended up getting lost, never to be seen again! I gave up in the end and now my reg has lapsed. Good luck with your job!
