With it expecting to reach 50 degrees today will there ever be a temperature where they decide to close school for the summer earlier? I dont know how we are going to survive until the end of the month. Its already so painful.

The construction workers aren't supposed to work at all if the temperature gets over 50 degrees, right? I've always heard that too, wonder if it's actually true? I've never seen it officially hit 50 degrees in Dubai. My school carpark is a different matter

My DH works on construction sites and this rule has been strictly enforced all the 7 years he's been here. The municipality have done spot checks on his sites. Not saying all companies are so proactive but I know his does.

That may be the law daily but I have never seen it enforced especially for municipal workers. The law states if temperatures reach 50+ workers on ALL levels are sent back to their barracks not just when the date comes up. but maybe there is a clause on date and actual temperatures. BTW what's the temp in your office today? I know I wouldn't be in mine if it was even 40+ but I come from a country that sees even wilder temperature fluctuations so maybe that's being taken into account

So all the labourers on construction sites and municipality workers were sent home? Great news! The Government is enforcing the laws! Or was that part of the news feed? Summertime working starts June 15th and lasts for three months. Basically they can't work in direct sunlight from 12.30 till 15.00 Many construction workers will work split shifts or continue during these hours but not work in direct sunlight. The municipality makes sure these laws are enforced and use surveillance drones to monitor sites.

The kids at our school aren't allowed out once the ambient heat reaches 40, even if the temperature doesn't hit 40.

I agree with oopsiedaisy, there's no reason children should be sent home early because of the heat. However schools should not allow kids to play outside, even in the shade or with hats on. At our kids' school they were allowed to play outside at 11:30 when the temp was like 115! Ridiculous. No way. Id be complaining about that. Last week they were making my kid do some p.e. Rehearsal and he got so hot he nearly fainted. He started vomiting and he was still sweating when I picked him up, poor guy was sick for an entire day. This was indoors! I'd really take issue with them being outdoors at all.

The official temperature never hits 50C - not once in nearly 20 years.

Never known a school to close due to high temperatures but they do stop the children playing outside when the temperatures reach a certain level. It's not long now before the schools finish so you can start counting down

Fair enough. Hope the construction workers get relief soon too.

The construction workers next door don't seem to be getting the day off. Why would an air conditioned classroom be unbearable?

I wouldn't have thought so unless the AC isn't working.
