Ladies, resurrecting this thread as I suspect my daughter may have PCOS and we currently don't have insurance. For the initial diagnosis, can we see an Endocrinologist directly without referral, and does anyone have an idea of a rough estimate of testing costs. Sorry, money is a real issue at the moment and I really want to deal with this. She had been having irregular periods for a period of time and now it is rare if she gets them. Plus, lots of excessive hair growth and mood swings. Any advice would be helpful. I was thinking of Iranian Hospital as I have heard they are somewhat reasonable in price -- anybody have any experience with them? Thanks ladies.

I'm seeing dr.Anna at Dubai London Clinic - great doctor! due to high demand it's always hard to get an appointments or there is a long wait. But still it's worth it IMO. (I have PCOS, insulin resistance & hypothyroidism) That is exactly who I was looking at LovelyLilies! When I saw in her profile she is interested in PCOS, I wondered if she would be good. Is she good for explaining things? I know that sounds like a strange question but I really want a doctor who can sit with me (and my husband hopefully!) and literally explain all my tests and th meds and everything that comes along with it. I really feel like my doctor now is just not helpful at all with that. I can't fault her otherwise, she's done bloods and tests and everything but she just doesn't listen to my concerns nor do I feel like she explains things enough to me. She is very good at listening and explaining. I went first to see her about PCOS... came out having hypothyroidism, hashimotos and insulin resistance - she did loads of tests for me while no other doctor bothered testing for any of these things. Oh, I was also having a persistent pain in my right side...another gyne simply sent me away, while dr. Anna sent for an abdo ultrasound where they found out I had kidney stones! She advises about meds and what I like the most about her she is interested in natural or alternative drugs. She works with you: if you don't like some drugs you tell her and she suggests something else. I've seen some ladies visiting her with their partners, too. I can only advise that you make an appointment with her and see if you like her.

Thanks for the info everyone! Looks like my doctor listens even less than i thought. After my bloods came back as having got worse (!!!) she suggested Inofolic sachets. When I looked into these, turns out to be Inositol and Follic acid. I told her at the last appointment that I was taking Inositol from researching myself!!! So after this, I really need a new doctor! Unfortunately, Dubai Herbal Treatment Centre is too far for me to get to as I don't drive. Dubai Mall medical centre may not be too bad, is it within the mall or just close by? Also do you know which doctor it was your fiend was seeing Bluebutton?? Has anyone been to Dubai London Clinic in Umm Sequim 2??

I think Dubai Herbal Treatment Center might be a good option for holistic approach. Also a friend of mine has PCOS and goes to Dubai Mall Medical Center and is very happy with it. She has dome acupuncture and also has been going to a nutritionist, which made a massive difference. Controlling stress and limiting dairy and gluten and eating whole foods as supposed to packaged foods. Good luck! I can surely second DHTC, poly cyyster since I was a teen...bad case of mood swings, wght gain and infertile too. After all sorts of docs and metformin treatment went to DHTC... 6 months wght loss happened and surprisingly got pregnant too....though wasnt trying! now I have realised PCOS is more than treatment...its a complete life changing effort....diet, sleep, food, drinks and making it sustainable is the key.

I'm looking for a recommendation for a good gynaecologist that specialises in PCOS, (preferably not too far from JVC). I was diagnosed few months back after scans revealed many cysts and bloods showed insulin resistance. I feel like th Dr im seeing now just isn't bothered, I'm feeling really down trying to manage my symptoms including massive mood swings and she just doesn't seem concerned with anything other than getting my weight down (which btw I'm only about 5kg overweight so not a massive amount) I know th weight loss can help but when th previous 20kg or so hasn't, I can't see this last few making much of a difference. Thanks in advance! Hi kerrym, I was in same boat las year. Jumped to 3 gynecologists, they all were equally unconcerned and useless. The only thing helped was losing eight, taking care of diet and moving a lot. I am taking yaz and metaformin medicine, both have helped a lot. I don't have any more symptoms of uncomfortable mood swings .... Excepts the days when I eat too much of carbs. Reducing weigh does make difference and your best doctor will be your body. Listen to it when you eat clean and move a lot. Verses.... When you don't mvoe or eat unhealthy. You will get to know and can adjust your life accordingly. I hope you get some good doctor.... But I did not. And I am glad I learnt what my body tells me :) I have been slowly making changes to my diet (limiting any white bread/rice/pasta and sugar swapped for sweetener) but I've not cut out completely as I know I could never stick to that. I'm having more fruit and veg in my diet instead of sweets etc but I have not found any link between diet and mood, it's always been round my cycle, mainly intense mood swings for the last 2-3 days of one cycle and first 1-2 days of the next. The rest of the time it is more of i'll have a random day or two anywhere in my cycle where my mood is just incredibly low, i'm just totally numb. These days i do not worry about so much as I have been previously diagnosed with depression and i know they will pass, but the mood swings are driving me and my husband insane as I can literally go from having the time of my life to totally distraught and pushing everyone away the next. When i mentioned this to my doctor she replied with 'hmm.' not even a word! Most of my knowledge about anything to do with PCOS has been from the internet and a friend who was diagnosed some years ago because she's given me so little help when i've asked any questions. I am taking metformin 1 tab 2 times a day (though this may be increased shortly after my latest blood results come in) as well as several herbal remedies (omega 3, inositol, vitex and evening primrose). I have heard that the contraceptive pill like yaz can help but I don't want to go down that route again as the last time I came off contraceptive was very hard. I basically need to find a good dr who can just explain what is going on, how i can limit symptoms, any other medications or herbal remedies that may help, literally just the information side of things and actually listen to what i'm saying rather than just making noises to acknowledge i've spoken.
