What is Dubailand like? You seem to get a lot for your money so guessing maybe some drawbacks.
What about Rima near Jumeirah beach?

Thank you

Regarding your age and high standards and good income, I would buy a villa, as landlords here aren't reliable and/or they buy for investment and might sell when you are still under contract, very messy indeed. Choose a location reasonable close to work. In Dubailand I would probably go for a nice villa in the Ranches as they have more facilities than Al Barari for example.

The reality of actually living here is that due to a number of factors, not least shonky landlords, unreliable employment and neighbourhood issues, it's common for people to make several house moves even over a short period of just a few years..

Al Barari is in the middle of nowhere but the villas look great. Here's one of the top end ones: http://www.thenational.ae/business/the-life/spectacular-dh49m-dubai-villa-tailor-made-for-the-worlds-super-rich--in-pictures#1 Check out the ads on propertyfinder. It's less of a jungle compared to Dubizzle. These are below your budget just to get an idea what type of villas are on offer: https://www.propertyfinder.ae/en/rent/villa-for-rent-dubai-umm-suqueim-4235718.html https://www.propertyfinder.ae/en/rent/villa-for-rent-dubai-umm-suqueim-4235645.html https://www.propertyfinder.ae/en/rent/villa-for-rent-dubai-umm-suqueim-4110616.html Check locations on http://wikimapia.org/#lang=en&lat=25.170611&lon=55.258827&z=14&m=b&search=dubai Some areas have Google street view which can be useful to check what it looks like.

Thanks not trying to make it difficult but if we are going to live somewhere for a few years we want it to be somewhere nice and we have very limited experience of the various area of Dubai. I doubt many of us who have been here at few years are actually living in our first location, we started in Arabian Ranches for two years, then moved closer to DH's work and DS's school at The Villa, Dubailand - been at The Villa 5 years and as DH's work has moved we're looking to relocate further towards Abu Dhabi ... if you want your perfect location it will be easier to choose when you're here, so I'd stay in a furnished apartment for your first month or so if you're unsure if location.

I seem to recall you have a reasonable budget, have a look at Al Barari .... however I'd always opt for as close to DH's work ... Traffic is getting worse all over Dubai

Where is your husband's work? just look for places close to your husband's work (traffic is killing), where there are convenient / service stores and not so far away from a main shopping mall. I don't understand why you are making it difficult? Going from Jumairah to the palm and now Dubailand doesn't make any sense to me in finding the right place to live. At your age and "experience" you should know better I guess.
