Greetings all,
I'm brand spanking new to the forum and UAE. I'm wondering if any of you have had issues getting pets here from the States? We have a Yorkie and Maltese( not on banned list) but it seems the rules/ requirements change the moment they're ready to fly.
We're working with an agent in the US and Dubai since July 2015. Seems to be an excessive length of time to get it sorted...Is this common?!
Going a bit crazy.
Cheers

I brought my dog over in January. We flew on the same Emirates flight as they also ship cargo on their passengers flights. The airline should tell you who they work with for cargo, for Emirates it was Mersant and then they coordinated with Pender Air in the DC area, no way you can do it yourself I don't believe, only if flying as a checked bag and you can only do that in certain places like domestically in the US, but it's not the best option. I did all the paperwork stuff in the US on my own rather than paying someone but you can't get around using an exporter.

Thank you ladies, This is from the KLM website, and UAE requires all animals to come in as cargo.... Pets as freight Your pet should be transported as freight by AIR FRANCE-KLM Cargo if: Your pet and kennel weigh more than 75 kg (165 lbs). The kennel is larger than 292 cm/115 inches (l + w + h). On some types of aircraft, the kennel must not be larger than 247 cm/97 inches (l + w + h). Contact your travel agent or call us for advice. Your pet is not travelling on the same flight as you are. Your pet is travelling to a country whose authorities allow the transportation of pets as freight only. To transport your pet as cargo you should contact a specialised cargo agent. You can find a list of cargo agents in the Netherlands at the AIR FRANCE-KLM Cargo website. When I contact Air France, I'm told I need to go through a professional freight company or pet relocation company. Very frustrating!

Hello Ladies, I would like to handle the export of our shihtzu from the US to Dubai in August (I will be using DKC for the import end)...but am meeting many roadblocks. One- because of his breed (snub nosed dogs). Two- am told that I will need to use a pet relocation service or freight handler for the export end. I have to believe there is a way to do it on my own though. Any advice or information would be so appreciated!! Thank you so much!

Hi, We shipped our dog from the states. We used Lufthansa airlines out of Miami. There was a lot of paper work on both ends but we didn't have any problems. I was in Miami and my husband was in Dubai so that made it more easier. As I handled the part in Miami and he was there to pick her up and handle the paper work in Dubai. But I do know that some dogs can't be shipped because of the health issues with that breed. You might want to check to see if that is the hold up. I know Yorkie's have heart issues. But it should have been easy and for sure not taking so long. I would go with the other suggestion about using Dubai Cattery and Kennels or DKC Vet Clinic in Motor City Dubai. They also do relocation's. Hope this helps. Hello! I am having a difficult time arranging export for my shihtzu (one of the breeds that can be difficult to fly during warm months and some airlines won't fly them at all). When I contacted Lufthansa they informed me that I needed to use a freight company/pet relocation service. I would like to do this on my own (I plan to use DKC on the import end). May I ask how you were able to arrange for your pups to fly as manifest cargo into the UAE without a freight company handling it for you? Thank you so very much!!!:)

Hia! We just moved back and no issues but it is a MAJOR pain in the you-know-where. Since July, though?!?!?! That is excessive. I know for us, the major issues where that import requirements changed a bit and that there are a few vaccines/shots or something that MUST be done in the last 10 days before travel, and then be sent to USDA. We worked with Dubai Cattery and Kennels and I was in the US at the time to do the legwork. It was super annoying, though. It is easier to export a child than a dog! If you have not already, I would recommend contacting Dubai Cattery and Kennels here--the lady there is super helpful! Good luck!
