From the gotoursdubai.com website: "Hatta border open and 35AED to exit / Tue 01 2016. Contrary to media news reports, Hatta border is NOT closed. The border is very much alive and kicking. New rules mean that anyone exiting from any of the UAE borders by road must pay 35AED. This is in addition to the 50AED required for the Oman visa for people who are doing Visa Runs. There are also news articles suggesting that Visa Runs are "No More". This is also not true, because we have trips going every day successfully."

Yes, you can still cross at the Hatta border, it's just that you need to avoid the police checkpoints BEFORE the actual border crossing as these are now closed to expats. From Dubai go down the Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Rd, take the E66 exit (Dubai-Al Ain Rd), get onto the Emirates Rd (old Bypass Rd) until you turn off onto the Sharjah-Kalba Rd. You make one right turn not long before Hatta (as indicated by Google Maps) then a left at the roundabout, past Hatta Fort Hotel on your left, and on to the border crossing as always. Only takes a wee bit longer than the old route.

You can STILL go to the Hatta/Oman border: Expat Route to Hatta Turn left at the Al Madam roundabout and get onto the E55 heading to Al Malaiha. Turn into the Sharjah/Kalba road (signpost – Shawka). Turn right towards Hatta onto the E44 after around 25-30 kilometres, thereby avoiding Omani territory and moving on to the Al Wajajah border post. Which is exactly what I said - take the Sharjah/Kalba road and get back on the E44 at the Hatta Fort Hotel - easy. If you use google maps, it will even take you the alternate route. Did it a couple of weeks a go. No drama.

Dibba is not all the way op north on the 11. Dibba is on the east coast. There is no border but a Sharjah police checkpoint. For this checkpoint you need a permit. The permit can be arranged if you book a hotel or dhow trip in Dibba Oman and need to be done 48 hrs prior to your trip. No visa stamping here so not possible to do a visa run! There is a real border north of Ras al Khaimah towards Khasab. Here you can go for a visa run.

http://gulfnews.com/guides/tourists/al-madam-hatta-diversion-expats-not-allowed-on-oman-e44-1.1648517 This should give you the details. It seems like you now need a hotel or dhow booking to cross at Dibba if I read it correctly.

We always did our visa runs at the Khasab (not Dibba) border crossing (past Ras al Khaima along the coast) instead of Hatta. It's basically taking Shaykh Zayed all the way north for about a 1.5-2 hour drive, and it was always an easy process.

You have to take the Sharjah/Kalba route and join the E44 at the Hatta Fort Hotel.
