Hi everyone,

We've just moved to Dubai from the UK. In the very little time we have been here we've realised that things seem to considerably more expensive here! I'm basically benchmarking with the prices of toys!

We now have to make a few expensive purchases like kitchen appliances and furniture so just want to get some ideas from the wonderful community here on where are the best places to shop for such items. I'm assuming that the malls are probably overpriced but I could be totally wrong.

We would like good kitchen appliances but don't want to pay three times what I would in London!

Any leads please? Where are your go to places for appliances and furniture?

TIA

Thank you so much! Looks like I'll start at Carrefour. Any recommendations for furniture stores? Thank you!! I second carrefour and better life for appliances. I also sevond waiting if you can until Ramadan sales. Depending on how much you want to spend on furniture there are many lovely shops. Marina and the one having really lovely stuff but expensive! Home Centre and ikea are really good options for all you essentials that won't break the bank. Happy shopping.

Thank you for suggesting Dubizzle. I'll definitely spend some time there to see what bargains I can find. Waiting till Ramadan for non essentials is also a great tip! Thank you!! Hoping Dubai feels like home soon! :)

May I offer an alternative to buying brand new which is to use Dubizzle and community Facebook pages. When we moved here we furnished our entire villa from Dubizzle. I managed to buy a brand new fridge at half the price, a barely used cooker and dishwasher. You need to look around but buying things and then getting them moved by a man with a van is a really viable option here because folk are moving and leaving all the time. Some of them at very short notice and they may have just bought a new "whatever" but then not be able to take it with them. Find out the Facebook pages for the community you live in and that reduces the distance to move things. Yes, I accept you need to be a bit discerning but you will save a small fortune and find your way around Dubai in the process! Good luck with the move :) Edited to add that there are amazing deals during Ramadan so if you can hold on until approx 25 May and do want brand new you will be well rewarded!

Hypermarkets like Carrefour are great, they always have excellent offers. I have bought a few appliances from there, and they are covered under warranty as well. You can also check on souq.com, as they always have sales and offers going on, and they deliver within a few days too.

I believe that the best prices for appliances can be found in the major hypermarkets such as Carrefour, Geant and Hyperpanda. If you want a specialised brand then perhaps you should look at Betterlife in Mall of the Emirates. There are also Sharaf DG and Emax who have a good selection. Secondhand items can be found on the dubizzle site.
