Please tell your friend to request for a lactation consultant. There has to be one in her area..or somewhere close by. Not wishing to be disrepectful to doctors, but generally a busy general practitioner will not be the best person to ask for breastfeeding help. You are better off going to a lactation consultant. I say this froma personal view. Breastfeeding is indeed a very special feeling for every mother and it builds a strong relationship a mother and her child. Let her see one, please.
Breastfeeding can come easy to some and can be a real challenge for many. I have seen that unless one has some medical issue, its mostly how committed one is that makes it tougher or easier. Tell you friend not to give up as its absolutely crucial for her child's health!
There's a lot of previous threads on here from the golden days of expatwoman! Specifically users like Kiwispiers were so helpful with so many tips on breastfeeding. Just do a search.
