I saw these a couple of weeks ago in the "pharmacy" section of the Organic Foods & Cafe in the Greens.

The manufacturers of Mooncup advise emptying it every 4-8 hours, or after a night's sleep as opposed to DivaCup's recommendation of up to 12 hours at a time.

Perhaps, the recommendation might be to rinse it more frequently...every 6 hours?

I have been following this thread as an option for myself. The GYN concern interests me. Perhaps there are a couple ladies heading to theirs soon that could inquire and share their doctors thoughts. It was my understanding of the device that the fluid drops away from the cervix and into the cup. Then sits inside the cup until emptied. I dont see how that could be any worse of effect than the fluid being absorbed into a dense and dry cotton tampon and sitting. Just my un-expert opinion. I would very interested in a female Doctors opinion ;0) But I think the difference is a tampon has to be changed every three hours or so (once absorbed) otherwise it would leak....it seems from the posts that the DivaCup is only changed once in the morning and once at night.

I asked a friend whose husband is a gynecologist and fertility specialist to get his professional opinion on the Diva Cup. He voiced concerns over the collected menstrual tissue and blood sitting inside a woman's body for prolonged amounts of time, potentially causing infections inside the cervix.

What a neat idea. Now, if only someone could figure out a way to have a one minute flush or something brilliant to end the week long routine. *** Like "Diva Dou ch e" edited by DlnAces21 on 18/11/2011

You probably don't need to empty when you are out...once in the morning and then again at bedtime. Fantastic as you don't need to worry about it at all during the day!

In the interim it is fine to empty the contents down the toilet and wipe it with toilet paper, within the privacy of a toilet cubicle.

I am keen on opinions too, I am just struggling with the reussing and cleaning thing. How are they more comfortable MarieD? More comfortable in that once it's inserted, you just can't feel that it's there at all and it just actually feels cleaner as well, strangely enough. The cleaning isn't really a big deal, certainly no worse than washing your hands after you've removed, inserted a tampon. You just tip the contents down the toilet and rinse it in the sink. And what happens if you are in a public bathroom (i.e. Dubai Mall)? Surely you wouldn’t want to do it in front of others... out of decency I suppose? :/ ...I'm referring to the washing.

Less likely to cause an allergic reaction and far more environmentically friendly. Where do you think tampons go?

It's absolutely brilliant, if you ask me. Have been using one since 2005. Takes a bit of practice, that's all. Two complaints, though. 1. Why did I not find it earlier? 2. It makes life so comfortable, that one tends to forget one has a period at all.

The Organic shop and cafe has 2 branches as Sydneygal says. One is in the Greens, in a slip road of Sheikh Zayed Rd in the new Dubai area and the other is in Dubai Mall. They have a website if you google it. You could probably contact them via that to see whether the product is in stock.

Pretty sure it is still available in the Organic shops (Greens/Dubai Mall) in the section where all the vitamins are - a friend bought one a few months ago. They are the best!

Gummy, I don't know about the availability, but just wanted to say that I use the mooncup and have done for maybe 5 or 6 years. I had it shipped to Australia from the UK as I could not find anything via retail outlets in Australia that long ago. Perhaps you can get one shipped here for you. In any case, I'm very satisfied with it and I think the only difference to the Diva (from my recollection) is the colour - the mooncup is an opaque silicon, which is why I chose it, it seemed somehow "cleaner". It's just a guess, but I think the store mentioned below is at the west end of Tecom on a service road alongside Sheikh Zayed Road heading north to the creek. Hopefully someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

sorry to bump a super old thread... But does any one know if the diva cup is still available in the store listed below, and if so where that store would be located? I arrive in Dubai the day after tomorrow and I just realized that mine was accidentally thrown out. I'm also open to trying the mooncup if that is more readily available... Thanks in advance.
