International Dances Around the World


Each year, the 29th April sees the Official International Dance Day, which celebrates dance across the globe by millions of dancers.

This day has been organized by UNESCO SINCE 1982.  Dancing has been around since the dawn of civilization. With Emirati culture in the United Arab Emirates rich in traditional dance such as Tanoura, Haban and Yowalah the victory dance; here at #ExpatWoman we wanted to know the traditional dances of the nations that you are living in over the globe.

Spain

Flamenco

Flamenco is a traditional form of Spanish dance from the region of Andalucía. It is a passionate dance that has expressive use of the arms and rhythmic stamping of the feet. The females are often dressed in black and red dresses which are striking to look at. Flamenco is accompanied by music played on the guitar and vocals


China

China Dragon Dancing

China is a culture that is inclusive of many different forms of folk dance that dates back many years. One of the most famous and internationally recognized, is the dragon dance and the lion dance. Often associated with Chinese New Year it is dance with a colorful and elaborate dragon that can be up to 100m long! The dragon symbolizes good luck for the New Year.

Step dancing is one of the most popular forms of dance to come out of Ireland to come out of Ireland. It is a formation dance with bags of energy. It is mainly movement of the legs set out in routine steps. It can be performed solo or in groups. It does come in many variations with the most well-known version being River dance.


Argentina

Argentinian Tango

Along the borders of Argentina and Uruguay is the birthday place of tango! This is a zealous partner dance that always has a leader and follower. It is a rich dance full of expression, improvisation and connection, more like a language than a dance!
