Meet Heather Duncan, she is a mum, a Scottish expat and girl about town living in Oman.

A bit about me:
Hey, My name is Heather and I am a 20 something wife, mum, blogger and adventurer. Moving to a whole new continent was never on my agenda but it happened, my husbands company called with a new job offer and upon accepting they gave us 3 weeks to pack up our stuff, get married and get our pastey white British butts to the sunny country of Oman. Thankfully we made it work and it has been a life changing opportunity for us.
How long have you lived there?

Why did you move?
My husband was offered a new position in Oman which meant he could come home almost every night and we could start a family together instead of him being away for weeks on end.
Why we like living here:
Oman is a wonderful place to be. From the mountains to the desert and back to the ocean Oman has an adventure for everyone. It is beautiful, varied, kind and full or rich heritage that the Omani people are keen to teach.

Accommodation Options?
For accommodation there are plenty of different options. Living in a secure compound is something that is not required in Oman, you are free to live where you wish in peace & safety. There are apartments available and also villas, some with swimming pools, depending on your budget and choice of location.
What do you enjoy doing with your time?
In my free time you can generally find me up a mountain exploring with my camera or relaxing at the beach with friends. We are so lucky here to have so many options of places to go and be able to travel freely without a male chaperone or feeling in danger.
What top tips do you have for anyone considering a move?
Do your research before you go. Living in an Arab country comes with restrictions such as dress code, how to behave and how you can speak to people. Although it is a wonderful, tolerant and welcoming country you are frequently reminded that you are merely a visitor.
What do you wish you’d known before you moved?
I wish I had known that being a newcomer takes time. I threw myself into knowing everything all at once and finding friends straight away. I wish that I had just gone with the flow and enjoyed the new cultural experience.
What’s the best thing about being an expat?
The best thing about being an Expat is reinventing yourself. You can be whoever you want to be, surround yourself with people who you like and make yourself be the best you can be, not the people you are obliged to mingle with because you have known them since school days. You can try new hobbies, learn new things without anyone holding you back.
How do you keep a little bit of home with you as an expat?
For me "home" is wherever my husband and son are so I don't miss Scotland too much. We frequently speak to people from home and I write all my experiences online on my blog so that they can join the adventures too.
