Education

Education is one of the most important aspects to consider if you are bringing children to Hong Kong. Furthermore we have a list of nursery, primary and secondary schools and their respective fees, as well as the universities where older children can study and further their education.

  • Education Overview

The education system in Hong Kong is largely modelled on the system of education used in the UK, with a particular reference to the English system. However in 1997 the education system taught in local schools has been changed somewhat in order to reflect the different language of instruction. The new education model was introduced in the 2009/10 academic year and is now more reflective of the Chinese and North American system of education.

  • School Holiday Dates

Hong Kong schools have a fair amount of holiday breaks throughout the year as well as a number of public holidays. The dates can vary slightly from year to year and from school to school including differences between districts, government schools, international schools and private schools so it is best to check with the relevant school for the exact dates.

  • University

Hong Kong has 8 government-funded universities offering various degrees to study. An advantage is that they all speak English as the first language of choice for most of their courses.
