EW is written by women for women, both for expats relocating and Dubai residents, with sections for jobs, schools, housing, hotels, shopping !!! and so much more. Everything you need to understand the life of an expatriate in Dubai - from whether to live in Jumeirah or Arabian Ranches, to treating visiting relatives to high tea at the Burj al Arab, from beauty offers to arranging a picnic in the desert - we've got it covered!
So much more than a website !!
For more Dubai based services, and information about life in other Middle Eastern cities see :

 Hello !

How are you enjoying the summer ?  Long lie ins without a school run to do… quieter roads… easier parking… Summer Surprises.  We used to see a mass exodus from Dubai but not any more ; so many of us stay, at least for several weeks.

First things first then… what are we going to do to keep the little darlings entertained ?  We have compiled a list of summer schools and activities and there’s lots of choice.   You’ll also find our interview with e-sports who offer a huge range of sports activities for both children and adults, in DubaiPod. Congratulations to the Dubai Pod Stars for comming first in their division!  Click here for full results.

The malls are awash with Summer Surprises, and really… as anyone who has been here for a few years will confirm, the weather is pretty mild !  It could get worse before it gets better so whilst you can still enjoy an early evening swim, get out and enjoy it ;-)

And ok so its hot and the beach isn't as appealing as it might be, all the better timing to get Slim in the City with PowerEat, so you'll be ready when that bikini weather comes around again ;-)

We are delighted to introduce you to some tremendous services, new to the site.  Especially with the newcomers in mind, we welcome Relogulf  relocation services and  Jumeirah Living, who offer short-term rental solutions – 3 days to nine months – with special launch offers and Indigo Living for all your furnishing needs.  For both sales and rental see Link Up Property Services, Exclusive Property Rentals & Rickerby Martin Property Services.  Despite the constant building, the property market remains tight so our best advise is to plan ahead as far as you can, and work with reputable agents who won’t waste your time.  You’re in your new house, and now you have to furnish it.  Well the good news is there are lots of sales on!

The primary concern for many newcomers is finding school places.  It used to be so difficult but with many new schools opening over the last few years, the situation had relaxed.  Population growth has continued however and its getting tight again, particularly for primary places so if you know you have a good chance of moving to the region, or even a slim chance…, then contact schools now and get your children’s names down on the lists.  You’ll find more information on our Education page and for nurseries, in the ExpatMums&Tots section. This month we have been along to look at GEMS Royal Dubai in Mirdif  and GEMS World Academy in Barsha.  We also met with academic experts involved with setting up the school and recorded our interview for DubaiPod.

COMPETITIONS !

Volvo are offering to win a Volvo for the weekend.
Please email your name and phone number to  -

Congratulations to last month's competition winners :  Brenda Almamlouk
Some great events last month; thanks to Times Square Mall for hosting the ExpatWoman Craft Fair.  It was a great morning and we will be back there again in November. We still have several unclaimed prizes (link to the thread on the board) so check out the thread on the Information Board to see if you were a winner. We had great feedback from our Volvo competition winners who enjoyed the Defensive Driving course at The Autodrome…. there’s something else you could do this summer.  And thanks too, to all who presented at the coffee mornings in June…. Future Health, Home Matters re wills, Marks & Spencer for the vouchers ;-), Desert Diamonds & Atlanta Vision re. Lasik eye surgery.  Jude is very tempted… as am I… but I’m waiting to see if Jude has it done first !!!  One of our team has gone one step further and would like to warmly recommend Al Shunnar Plastic Surgery. I will say no more, but she is looking radiant these days, and very happily shopping for new swimwear ;-)

Judy came up with the bright idea of writing Readers' Stories.... a quick glimpse into the lives of women like you and me, who have for whatever reasons, ended up here in Dubai.  We will launch a new section in the new site, and for now we're starting with Gillian's Story, Marta Story

The coffee mornings are still running, as are ExpatMums&Tots and ExpatBumps&Babes.  You don’t think you’re a coffee morning sort of a woman ? No, no-one ever does !  But if you are interested in meeting other women who are interested in meeting other women ;-) then these mornings are very good place to start.  The hosts are all very friendly and welcoming, and will be happy to introduce you to others.

ExpatWoman are hosting a bus trip to the Sheikh Zayed Mosque in Abu Dhabi.  Details including cost are still to be finalised, however we are planning lunch in Abu Dhabi before we return to Dubai. If you are interested please send your name and the names of any other people you wish to provisionally book for to events@expatwoman.com.

Amongst other things, for September, we are also working on a New to Dubai Morning, Outlet Mall Trip and the Lloyds Small Business Course.

So have a great July !

Jane
