Like Katel I mostly use the glass ones with the hinged glass lid and rubber seal, no problems, I also make use of empty coffee jars, etc. I decided a couple of years ago to try and stop using plastics for food storage and get glass where possible. I also have some of the large glass what I would describe as candy/biscuit jars from Ikea, although they have plastic lids they do the job well and are only about 10 dhs each. I do still have a few plastic containers but got rid of the cheap/really flimsy ones with the 'low' numbers on the bottom.

I've tried the Ikea 365 set that is Dhs 15. It was durable for oh, 1 year. One of the flat plastic containers cracked across the bottom, the lids tend to fit a bit wonky after a while. I use these exclusively for refrigerator/freezer food storage or transport (packed lunches), never to re-heat food.
Personally, my fave for dry food storage are either the square-shaped clear plastic containers with yellow screw-on lids, or re-using cleaned jam/peanut butter/pasta sauce/dill pickle/coffee/ Al Alali tomato paste jars.

Thanks ladies. At the moment i have an assorment of jars/ bags of different sizes. I guess i have been spending too much time at lakeland, crate& barell, Ikea and have been feeling the "need"to get everthing coordinated...

Has anyone tried the ikea 365+ plastic containers which are Dhs 15 and Dhs 9 each or the Oxo pop up canisters. I am also thinking about the Tupperware ones........

cheapest of all I recycle all my coffee jars - I get through loads as I do drink far too much coffee and tend to buy either small medium or large depending on what storage jars I need - plus its less to landfill!!

Tupperware!! Can't beat it. My mum has some stuff that's around 30 years old and still going strong. I've just started building up my collection.
The service is great and cracks or warps and they will replace it free of charge.
Not sure if u can get it out here. I get it from
home.

My grandma has probably spent more than her house is worth at that place! She is a home shopping queen and honestly I do think she must be their number 1 customer. She orders multiple of everything 'just in case' lol Always quite useful when it's christmas morning and you realise you have left some family member off your shopping list. Oh - other than the time she donated a load of microwave cooking dishes for me to give to my uncle who then informed me he didn't have a microwave. Not my greatest moment.

I get the snap lid plastic containers, big ones.. All the nuts, oatmeal, flour etc goes in there if I use them frequently. Large freezer bags work great to put flour, sugar, things in boxes etc in then put in a big basket in the cupboard. We have cereal containers.... The things I use infrequently ie, rice flour, corn flour, white sugar etc..goes in a plastic bag and freezer. You dont have to spend buckets of money to keep the weevils out . never have problems with weevels since we put things in plastic containers and bags.

I got some really cheap ones from Geant - see through plastic ones with yellow screw on lids. I haven't had problems with bugs in my kitchen cupboards but did have to have pest control out after seeing a couple of cockroaches in the apartment so I bought loads of them after that!

Some of the larger plastic juice containers can be recycled - great for storing rice etc, empty pasta sauce jars can also store lots of different food stuff and don't cost a penny.

Personally i use the glass jars with the rubber seal - usually get them from C4 or Lulus and then just label them with the contents. I have never got any bugs in them.... will google to see if i can find a pic for you.

I am trying to reorganise my kitchen cabinets, I am looking for storage for rice/ sugar/biscuits/ lentils etc. Tired of the black insects getting into things and having to throw it out.
Any brand which has worked for you, any to avoid. Thanks. I really like and have a few OXO pop canisters, however they ae expensive. Need to get atleast 15 medium , 10 large containers. The ikea 365 + ones are cheap and would do the job. I am wondering if it is better to spend on the oxo or stick to the ikea ones. thanks
