I meant 'fell off' from the beach bag - I guess I should have said 'fall out'. Ask her to try put something similair in the beach bag and see if they could fall out easily.

To me it looks like someone actually took the rings from her bag if they are gone. All 4 falling out of the bag is slightly more unlikely. I guess there are no cameras at the pool - but if there are, she should have them looked at.

I agree - this was my initial thought as it would be unlikely that all 4 fell out. Do you think she should go to the police?

I agree - it would be very unlucky for all 4 to fall out, would make me think that they were stolen out of the bag or mislaid

I had a very similair sequence of events once, although I used my car instead of a taxi. I looked absolutely everywhere and no sign of one earring.

A year later the earring I found at home. I have no idea how it got where it was - but I hope for your friend that its just her being scatter brained and its still with her somewhere. The rings and that too 4 of them would have made a sound or a good chance to have hit her feet and she would have noticed them with her peripheral vision.

So there is a possibility she actually put them in the locker as opposed to the bag, or that they are in the pocket of her jeans somewhere.

Its strange for 4 rings to have fallen off and for her not to have noticed. Jog her memory some more!

The rings didn't fall off, she took them off and placed them in an unzipped pocket of her beach bag. I don't think there would necessarily be any noise if they fell out at ground level at the poolside or inside the taxi. Of course if they were taken there would be no noise anyway. It's looking more and more like they have been found and not handed in.

My poor friend is devastated and I'm looking for advice on anything she could do which might help. She went to The Address last Friday for a film and pool night with friends. Took off her four precious rings and put them in an unzipped pocket in her beach bag, which then went into a locker. It was later taken out of the locker and back to the poolside, where she rummaged for her purse. Took it home in a taxi later. Next morning at home, bag on work surface, no rings. She feels they are more likely to have fallen out, so not necessarily stolen from her bag. RTA have already said nothing found in the taxi. No joy from the hotel either. They must have been picked up by someone though.

Is there anything else she should do? Any suggestions greatly appreciated - she's in pieces. Thanks.

Omg What is it today ..your friend lost rings and me left shopping in taxi...this has to be the worse week ever ...

Fingers crossed for us both x

There is nothing she can do. It has happened to me before when I was much younger. My husband and I stayed in a hotel. I took my rings off and put them on the bedside table and forgot them the next morning. We had already checked out and were on our way back by the time I realised. I called the hotel but the room had been cleaned and they were gone. I am sure it was the chamber maid that took them but no proof!

I always like to think that the person who finds someone's jewelry and doesn't make an effort to return it is cursed in some way.

I hope so, I forgot all my jewellry in the back of a London cab, he had taken me to my home address so knew where to return it and who it belonged to. Reported it and it never turned up.

Thanks for those replies. Is there any point in making a report to the police, or at least letting RTA and the Hotel know she's getting in touch with the police?

As an experienced scatter brain, who has, at various times, lost a mobile phone, hand knitted beret (that belonged to someone else!), an expensive dress, a name necklace in 24 carat gold, one diamond stud earring, i can sadly tell you that unless an honest person turns up with her rings it's gone forever. I also left another mobile phone on a beach bench that when I called 10 minutes after walking off, the finder was nice enough to wait and return to me, I also left behind my wedding band at my husbands childhood home and was recalled to it by my MIL!
I chalked my many misfortunes down to experience and now hang onto my things for dear life. She just has to be more careful in future.
