I have no idea how he managed to get in there. DS was wondering if someone opened the box and later closed it without realising he was there - we literally had to dig a hole for him to climb out so it doesn't seem possible that he got in from underneath.
Rogue is the perfect word to describe Oliver, although he seems a little meeker tonight. There are just no words to say how fantatic it is to have him back. edited by Stardust on 11/03/2010

Thank you ladies for all the well wishes.
It is sooo good to have him back, tonight whilst I was cooking dinner he came and curled up on my feet - he has never done that before, he just seems so relieved to be home. Oliver sleeps on DS's bed, so he is there now curled up and sleeping peacefully.
Must also add, it was a delight to see how excited our dog was to see Oliver - he licked him all over.
What a wonderful end to our week.
And I hope Oliver wasn't fiddling with the switches inside the DEWA box - thanks for the laugh BusyBell...

have we identified the culprit for the sky high DEWA bills?

great news Stardust - we love our 'boys', although mine is a pooch but we still love him just like a son - DS calls our pooch his brother! (only child syndrome!!)

Oliver is HOME - torn between crying and shouting with joy.
He was stuck inside a DEWA box, and only by chance as we walked by and my DD said, Mum I heard Oliver inside that box... and she was spot on!
Thank you to all the lovely people who stood with us and to the lovely gentleman who dug him out - words cannot express our gratitude.
Oliver is off for his microchip asap - he has a sore eye, a cut on his paw and is very skinny. I am so hopeful this experience will put an end to his escaping.

Directions to get there, get on airport road, pass airport on yr left and go straight all the way, passing rashidiya metro station, n mirdiff on yr right. Keep going straight, and u will pass an eppco station and mushrif park on yr right. At big roundabout, go straight, immediately after u exit roundabout, take the first small dirt exit on right, u will see a white 2 storey building on yr right further in, this is it. Good Luck ! I hope u find him! edited by sniffy on 11/03/2010

Please go check if he at the Dubai Municipality on Al Khawaneej Road, after Mushrif Park Roundabout, even if he is microchipped. I would stress to go today and dont wait.

ABVC are doing 10% off spaying and neutering this month. In addition they are also doing strays for free although terms and conditions do apply to strays. http://www.expatwoman.com/dubai/Default.aspx
Sorry for hijack but it might help someone in the future.

Is Oliver fixed (neutered)? If he isn't, male cats love to wander and search for females. He could well be doing this and then might come home. Also check with feline friends about reports of found/missing cats. Good luck, I hope he returns.

Thank you ladies for all the replies and ideas.
Oliver still hasn't come home - we will go for another walk this evening and see if we can find him. Great idea to check out Al Wasl park SueB thanks. As for pictures, I don't have a single photo of him because the computer that I had them stored on "died" last week taking with it all my lovely photo's. Unbelievable timing.
NellB nice to read your story, our Oliver is the most aloof cat I have ever owned, I am sure he is completely oblivious to the gaping hole he has left in DS's heart. He is a cat with quite an attitude, if he were human he would definitely be the glass is half empty and the grass is greener on the other side of the fence type. Yet somehow he has wrapped himself into our hearts.

Stardust, have you put posters in the neighbourhood? I have not seen Oliver but am not out late at night.... he is most likely close by. When did he go walkabout? Did you check Energetic Panacea to see if he showed up? they usually are familiar with cats in their end of the neighbourhood. Did you check Al Wasl park and the Construction area beside it?

Hi Stardust I also had a cat called Oliver, a ginger tabby, not living with me here but now very happily resettled with my Mum and Dad-in-law in the UK and getting spoiled rotten with lots of treats. He was also an escape artist in his youth. He now does middle aged laziness and crabbiness quite well, and is quite content not to go far from home comforts.
I do hope you find your 'boy' soon. I don't live near you but bumping the thread anyway, in case others do.
Nell

Our boy "Oliver" decided to leave home - he is an adventurous male cat, white all over with orange stripes through his tail and orange markings on his ears and nose.
Oliver is a thrill seeker, I have come to realise that perhaps he views us as a little boring, and as hard as I have tried to keep him indoors he is one little escape artist.
He is not micro-chipped (yet) and is not wearing a collar - I know, shame on me and today this is a huge regret so please no lectures.
He has gone walkabout from the Al Bhada'a (near to Jumeirah 1 and Al Satwa) area - he is missed beyond words and we would love to bring him home. If you see him please call 050 101 3454.
Thank you to all who read this thread.
