Kuwait has many parks for children, of varying standards and in most residential areas you may find green play areas. Also walking along the Corniche you will see many children's facilities such as slides, climbing frames, swings and inflatable slides/activities on the beach. As the summer gets so hot, many cafes also have indoor areas for smaller children to play in, such as soft play areas. Inside the Malls too, you will find all manner of arcade amusements for children (some requiring you to purchase a loyalty card for a small fee) alongside cinemas, food courts and perhaps bowling.

The following list gives you an idea of the sort of things children(of all ages) can enjoy:

Magic Planet

This is a fun- packed indoor area in The Avenues Mall especially for children. There are several rides and numerous amusements and games. It is situated handily right beside the Food Court on the first floor.

Infunity

Located on Level 3 within the 360 degree Mall, Infunity and the mall's Family Entertainment Centre offers all sorts of entertainment programmes. There are roller coaster rides, drop tower, rope course, rock climbing, video games, flight simulator experience, bowling and much more. The Freeze Club is specifically for teens offering a whole range of games and simulator experiences.

Colour Me Mine

This is a ceramic design and painting cafe which appeals to children and adults alike! It is located in Marina Crescent in Salmiya, although a second branch is due to be opening in the Avenues soon. Prices depend on the piece you choose to paint and additional charges for the paint are 3.5KD for adults and 2.750KD for children. Telephone 2224 4604.

Entertainment City

Is situated 20km from Kuwait City, near Doha on the north side of Kuwait Bay. Here you will find a comlete range of amusements based on themes from the 'Arab', 'International' and 'Future World'. The park is considered to be one of the best with entertainment for the whole family. It is closed on Sundays, on Mondays it's Ladies and children up to 5 only, and Tuesday- Saturday opening times are 5pm- 1am (Summer) and 3pm-11pm (Winter). The Scientific Centre

This fantastic facility off Arabian Gulf Street houses a world-class aquarium, IMAX Theatre and 'Discovery Area'. There is a Dhow Harbour outside and food and beverages are available as well as a shop selling a range of gifts for children. Entrance costs vary depending on whether you want to do three, two or just one activity, which is 3KD for adults and 2KD per child; annual membership is also available. Musical Fountain and Discovery Mall

The musical dancing fountain is one of the world's largest and has a garden with green spaces and family seating areas. It is situated off the first Ring Road beside the Discovery Mall which is a Mall designed for children featuring toy and clothes shops, food court, play facilities, arcades and an indoor football pitch called 'Goal'.

Brownies and Girlguiding

Sea Clubs

There are 5 sea clubs, located within Bida'a, Bneid Al Gar, Fahaheel, Ras Al Ardh (Salmiya) and Shaab. Each has a variety of facilities such as indoor and outdoor swimming pools, parks, beaches, tennis courts, bowling and marshall arts.They are run by KTEC (Kuwait Tourism Enterprise Company) who can be contacted on 2496 5555.

Zoo

Located in Omarrya on the airport road, the zoo covers 180,000 square metres of park land. There are many animals such as lions, giraffes and hippos which appear to be well looked after. Entrance fee is 500 fils and opening times are 8am- 8pm (Winter) and 8-12noon and again 4pm-8pm (Summer), daily. Telephone 2473 3389.

Sports

There are a range of sports for children such as ice skating, ice hockey, roller skating, bowling, horse- riding, martial arts, gymnastics, football and rugby. Many schools provide extra curricular activities and sports tuition so do check with your child's school (and neighbouring schools) to find out what is available.
