Let Me In
“Let me in” is a Hollywood remake of the 2008 Swedish film “Let the Right One In” and is based on the novel by Ajvide Lindqvist.
It is set in New Mexico during the 1980’s and tells the story of a lonely 12 year old boy, Owen (Kodi Smit-McPhee), who befriends a vampiric girl, Abby (Chloë Moretz).
I am a fan of horror movies so I did not mind the bloody scenes and terrifying attacks but I did find the story oddly touching as the relationship evolves between Owen and Abby.
The two young actors really did well in the portrayal of their characters and showed great maturity in roles that were complex and difficult. The vampire girl, Abby exhibits such innocence that it is surprising to see the amount of terror she can bring about to those around her. This polarity is emphasised very well throughout the movie. The cinematography is interesting in how it highlights how alienated Owen is from his parents who are in the middle of a divorce.
The movie is slow paced so it is not your usual Hollywood horror but I enjoyed watching the unsettling relationship between Owen and Abby grow. Definitely worth a night at the cinema!
