Spy Kids 4
Fourth movies in franchises don’t always make for entertaining viewing but Robert Rodriguez (writer/director) has done well to make this an enjoyable romp with a good storyline, awash with comic moments. Of course it helps to be a kid, and the humour is strictly slapstick, family entertainment but as much as the movie itself, I enjoyed the young audience’s frequent bursts of spontaneous laughter throughout.
The story centres around Jessica Alba’s character retiring for being a spy in favour of raising her newborn baby and step children. Two years later, the world is faced with a master fiend threatening to end time for all time…. Mom is called back to save the world and both baby and children get caught up in the plot. Ricky Gervais provides his usual wry take on situations, being the voice of a robot dog assigned to protect the family.
Warmly recommended as good family entertainment from age 5 (attention span to sit through a movie) through to early teen (pre-cynical!).
