Greetings,

I am pleased to report that I have made it through the detox and should I ever think it a good idea again, would someone please tell me how miserable I was! My children were begging me to have a coffee which can't be a good sign. But, one thing is for sure I now know why Posh looks so miserable, living on nothing more than fresh air does not make a happy soul!
Well summer has well and truly arrived and we are once again being accosted by Modhesh every way we look but, fear not as the shops are offering some great deals and not only is the weather not too unpleasant but the roads are generally calmer. In my book to go away in July is to miss a very pleasant month so I am staying here and taking it easy.
I was in
Caribou at Times Square this morning and it was lovely to see so many mums with their new borns. Every other Monday we host the bumps n babes there, they have very comfy armchairs and plenty of room for strollers, see Whats On for more info.
My daughter is one of the unlucky ones whose birthday falls during the summer holidays which means birthday parties months before the real event and the vexing question of what to do in the heat of Dubai.
This year we hit upon the novel idea (not) of a pool party and with the help of a bouncy castle into the pool and a Kenwood Smoothie machine, great fun was had by all! I have never owned a smoothie machine before but was told we HAD to make mocktails and I have to say the machine was great. Never before have so many strange concoctions been created!
Thankfully, we know where our children are going to school in September, one onto secondary school and the other staying at Jess but for those of you who are new to Dubai and still not sure please check out
Royal Dubai School which is in Mirdif and is offering primary and secondary education and/or Gems New World which is in Barsha. They are both offering a great level of education and good ethos.
With the remodeling of Dubai, several of my friends are caught up in the search for homes and I gather that it is far from easy with people constantly being gazumped by greedy landlords taking cheques despite promises having been made.
I am really pleased that we have
Rickerby Martin on the site as Kit who is behind the company is a qualified Chartered Surveyor and can tell you what you should be doing property wise from a purchase point of view. And, if you would prefer to rent then please contact
Link Up Property.

And, of course once you have found the property of choice you will need a relocation company,
ReloGulf come highly recommended and offer bespoke removal services.
Having been on one last month I thought I would have one more whinge about valet parking, my latest pet hate! Last month whilst attending a Ball at Dubai’s latest five star hotel I was very unimpressed to be told I couldn’t valet park, despite the ticket offering this service. It would seem that they weren’t expecting people to come in their own cars and therefore didn’t have the room so could the paying punter please park down the road and come back by golf cart……..
My children are enjoying a week at home before starting
Summer camp, I do feel a little mean but, I would much rather they were busy doing sports than sitting in front of the TV or PC getting no exercise. Check out the camps on offer including E Sports, there really is something for most children.
Unfortunately, the
Lloyds/TSB Small Business seminars were postponed last month but we are hoping to run them at the end of August/early September, so please keep an eye on What's On for more information.
I have just ordered a car for the summer break and found Hertz to be very efficient and price sensitive.
We had a great morning with
Home Help Training showing maids how to use various Clorox products. Both myself and Chandra who works with me learnt some tips so no excuses for anything less than a spotless bathroom.
The coffee mornings will be continuing through the summer so please check out the
coffee morning schedule for details of all our coffee mornings which are spread throughout Dubai including a new one at Caribou in Times Square for mums n tots.
Whilst on the subject of furry friends, Feline Friends are very busy, housing cats and generally keeping an eye on them all, so if you can help in any way please contact them.
Wishing you all a fab July where ever you may be.
Sallie
