We're going to RAK next month - is it worth doing it there? Anyone done it in RAK?? What were the waiting times like?

To avoid the rumoured rush after the summer at a time when I'll be far too busy. Ofcourse it may well never happen, it's a gamble and it gives me peace of mind.

FAY

If you want to pop round the corner and print the form off at my house, you're very welcome.

poped into al barsha branch at 6:30 in the morning, around 7:30 staff was there
we printed the filled forms, and that was easy. at around 9:30 we were home
better to take the printed forms, and be sure you are there before the office opens
best of luck

Waited 15 mins for receptionist to turn up and give me a ticket so I could queue for maybe 10 mins for typing and paying which took about 15 mins back to reception queued for 5 mins to get ticket in order to queue for appointment maybe 20 mins wait and then about 10-15 mins to have photo and finger prints. I'm told it'll arrive within 2 weeks - we'll see.

He went day before, and soon as he got there yesterday at 11am, he said that they stopped issuing tickets, hence why he decided to go early the next day.

Poor guys was P*****D off!!

Guess its just luck.

u can always drive to rak or other far flung places and get it done lol. but i would wait until further into the summer when the main exodus has gone, perhaps it will be easier then

Thanks for your responses. I was a bit concerned that no appointments available meant that they were all booked and I'd be turned away. Another question do live in maids need them too or is sponsorship, labour cards, health cards, security gate cards enough?

It's honestly not that bad...I eventually sorted mine a few weeks ago - having put it off for ages (and getting gradually more & more confused about whether it was going to be part of the visa renewal process, or whether I was going to be able to re-register my car without one etc etc etc).

I just downloaded the pre-registration form/programme from the eida website. You then fill in the form using the downloaded programme and when you've completed it it generates about 6 barcodes. You take the printed out pre-registration form and barcodes to an eida centre with your passport and visa, the person at the desk gives you a ticket and you wait for an appointment. At the appointment they check the information in your pre-reg form, take a photo and fingerprints, you pay, and then a few weeks later empost courier the card to you. I went to karama post office on a weekday lunchtime and waited about 45 mins, so not too bad. I think they put you in queues based on gender and whether you're local/GCC or not...

Not sure what you do if you can't download the form though...

I am going to get ours too as they did say a while back (changing goalposts...) that Dec would be the absolute last date, and I dont really want to face a stampede then. I figure July a nice peaceful time to do it. Does anyone know, do I have to take my child with, or can I do it for them?
thanks!

if u had it done when they panic'ed everyone at the very beginning what over a year ago, they said any child under 15 had to go, i wasnt going to wait all day for the appointment to take 5 mins with my children out of school, now they have changed the rules again, all children under 15 DO NOT need to attend, just the paperwork etc. yes they do say you need to have it done by december, but it does depend on when your visa is running out, my visa has just been renewed was due beg of july, but done it early, so at some point in the next few months we will do ours, no point if i did it last month, as you would have paid for 1 years fees 100dhs only then to have to pay 300 dhs for getting it done again with your new visa. end of july would be good, but remember what will it be like in ramadan? also if you are in an industry that is suffering with the recession and dxb etc you may be changing jobs more frequently and so then have to repeat the process again with a new sponsor.

I heard they are in the process of 'simplifying' the application form to speed up applications and this will be announced soon. I havent bothered to apply for mine. Rules keep being changed everyday and I will only apply once it is truly necessary. Many people I know applied when it started and already had to pay for renewal...they never used the card for anything or were asked for it.

I got a company done for me.. they emailed me the forms, i paid about AED 200 extra per person.

the day that we went unfortunately the staff had a sudden meeting so i had to wait about an hour or so..the company said it usually takes about 20 mins...

regardless..sure beats waiting from 4am!!!
