I think you can consider something like a white noise machine that you leave on all night as a sleep cue, but something like a musical mobile, if they fall asleep listening to it and then wakeup and its not playing, could be more a hinderance than a help.

DS also has a Buddy Snuggle which is the same square velvety cloth with a teddy head + arms in the middle which he does hold once he has fallen asleep but so far has not helped him go to sleep. Having a bit of a problem with night sleeps right now but will create a new thread and hopefully someone who has been in the same situation will have suggestions on how to handle.

Thanks though, it seems like the cot soothers effectivity depend on the baby and knowing mine ... no chance

DS has what we call his 'cot pals' rather than one of those electronic things and he loves them. He does sometimes throw them all out of the cot but thankfully he's able to get to sleep without them so it's not too much of a problem, then I just sneak in and pop them back when he's asleep.

His favourite is a soft cloth-type square with a bear in the middle. He absolutely stinks after a week or so and needs a go in the washing machine Big Grin.

I don't use them I Like to keep the cot toy free so they get to sleep quicker and they associate it with sleep only.like the previous poster said u put it on and they cry when it switches off lol ....

We have the Baby Einstein one and it has been a huge help in terms of my DD putting herself to sleep for both naps and at night.

if its a mobile thing you are talking about, my lo has a light and musical one - to be honest its more of a distraction than a soother. She will watch it until the timer runs out (about 20 mins) then "moan" because its off. If i put her to bed without switching the mobile on she is asleep within 5-10 mins.

Do they help get the baby to sleep/back to sleep? I have been looking at the Fisher Price Rainforest Waterfall Peek-a-boo and the Baby Einstein Neptune ones.
