I don't know where you plan on putting the article? Maybe that is why people are shy to comment.
If you haven't already published then I will make a few comments in the hope they will help you, but sorry to say we do not own a dog or cat!

Currently we have 2 cockatiels although we are looking into getting another medium sized parrot in the near future.
Despite exotic birds being very popular in the UAE and readily available to buy, we are finding it hard to get all the recommended equipment and at a reasonable price. There is no doubt that the souqs are cheaper than the shops but they are usually lacking in supplies. The UAE does not have a lot of online stores or even just up to date online shop listings, so it is hard to find supplies to begin with. Then when you find them 9 times out of 10 the range of cages, toys and food products is still slim at best. There are a few shops now popping up in Abu Dhabi (I can not speak for other emirates) that are a lot better and supply most of the equipment a western expat would expect, but you really end up paying extra for that!
It can also feel a bit lonely sometimes as I wouldn't know where to start looking to find other like minded bird keepers, despite seeing people buying them on a regular basis. Occasionally I stumble across someone else from the UAE posting on an American or UK bird forum for training tips etc. I feel that if there is something available it should be better advertised and if there isn't maybe someone should make something. Not everyone wants to become a bird geek and go to weekly meetings, but it would be nice to occasionally speak to other owners about parrot related things when most of your friends and co workers think cats and dogs are the only normal UAE pets!

Hi all,

I am a writer doing a piece on being a pet owner in Abu Dhabi. Is is frustrating? Do you feel having a dog for example is difficult due to all the restrictions about walking and the fact that many places ban pets?

Does anyone have any tips? Do you know of a great place to walk your dog in Abu Dhabi without getting in trouble. Do you we need more dog training centres/general facilities.

Also cat lovers - do you have any pet peeves or funny anecdotes.

I want to hear anything you have to say - let rip!
