So - I went, was very quiet - the actual " in the PO office" was about 5 mins. I had checked with Eida that they were open today and she said yes. Attacked via Emirates Road but got detoured on the way home by Mirdiff City Centre

It would have been faster to drive there than the time I wasted sitting on the phone that never answered. i thought you could do it on the eida website etc. and that would be such an efficient transaction...... she has never been asked for it in the two years she has had one, so I'm not sweating about it. edited by DesertBoot on 28/04/2012

I got to a SMS to say my card was ready for collection at Deira Post Office, was planning on going to pick it up but then DH phoned to say that they had been delivered to his office's PO Box and he had them.

in abu dhabi the post office is open on a saturday suspect it should be the same for dubai, but if you go to the central post office to collect in abu dhabi the counter for id cards may not be manned, if you go for example to a sub post office there is only 1 or 2 people in there anyways so you can collect anytime.

I just thought about that as I went away, I was trying to remember if my ILs collected or sent the driver and I'm pretty sure the driver did the collection. For mine they did ID me, though (but that was a home delivery so may be different as it was probably the post offices' safety that they'd delivered it to the right person rather than EIDAs requirement).

I bet you didn't - I don't think anyone in their right mind would have! I agree with the Aramex idea, they are great and for the little money you pay you save lengths of your time and sanity! (I just hope they will let them collect it for you and don't ask for your proof of ID or the Maids).

I think I am going to get Aramex to do it for me ( they are a bargain - discovered this recently!) .. I don't really like going very far over the Creek!

That's crazy! I think they just don't care. We applied for ours (together) and had to pick up a few weeks ago - DH and the 3 kids had theirs sent to Karama, mine was sent to Dubai Media City? Can't even imagine why.

But it's totally worth a trip, SM. You can stop at the Abu Hail Center along the way and order an abaya.

Eh no takes much longer than 30 mins ...! Unless I go overland via Emirates Road and attempt a turn off before the Solid Waste Dumping area...

Do you live in another emirate? That's what, 30 minutes away max from anywhere in Dubai?
