Xiana, congratulations on the raise, good for you! Glad to see things are looking up for you these days!

Thank you Beebers...I am not just saying this, but honestly it was so nice having all your support that kept me positive. In addition to this, I have also lost a few kgs..so I am 2kgs away from my ideal weight now, but still flabby ..

That's great, Xiana!!! We're all certainly rooting for you--glad the positive vibes made their way to you

Well, it will be a lot easier for you to move onto the next step now that you've lost the bulk of your remaining weight. Sounds like you'll be driving to the gym in style

I've had two Mini Cooper S cars and two VW Golf GTIs. The GTI wins hands down. Faster and more reliable. I know it's not on your list but you have the Scirocco and the Eos. GTI is better to drive than the Scirocco, good for re-sale and is less chavvy. Volvos are just a bit boring - my personal opinion so please don't shoot me down anyone. The BMW is nice to drive but need a bigger engine size if you want it to be nippy. The Pajero is just another 4x4 so what's the point?

Hi Luddite - thanks so much..did you have the cars in Dubai - I guess the driving and other experience is different in Dubai then outside and thats why I want to know if you had these in Dubai..? I did consider the GTI but then I thought the shape was not as sporty looking as the EOS and Sirocco so why I decided on the other two..

1. Volks Wagen EOS / Had one, absolutely loved it, you can feel it's solid german manufacturing, loving the hard-top and never had a problem (drove 80K on it)

2. Mini Cooper or Country Man Had one too, would not recommend it; had problems with gear box, AC and sunroof...did not feel safe driving around the bigger cars in Dubai... As in Hummers literally drive over you because they can't see you

4. Volvo C7O Volvo's known to be safest cars around, super comfortable and when buying new, I think they used to offer 5 years warranty and free service ( which is great because services can be quite $$$)

6. 2 Door Pajero? not sure if I should get a pajero again but this time 2 door.. Had one too; the main advantage is the amazing A/C and cheap maintenance... but you already have a pajero so if you really want to indulge yourself and not look back at your choice; I would change brand :-)

Thank you very much Yankeecamel. You gave me such good details on the cars...Isnt the mini cooper size the same or similar to the EOS and sirrocco..maybe they are a little bigger..but i guess the issues with the mini are surely a put off..Thanks for the heads up on that...I would have ended up buying one and then regretting it if it was high maintenance.

Hello my lovely expat friends,

How are you all doing?..I have been working very hard at work (long hours to keep myself busy) and received a raise..so I wanted to treat myself to a brand new car from the showroom...i am so happy!

I currently drive a 7 seater pajero (due to family), but now i want to buy a nice sporty looking car and I wanted your personal advice on this. Sorry, I have asked for lots of details below but I know you all have always given me sound advice and therefore, trust your judgement..would really appreciate your time..Does anyone currently drive one of the following or has experience with these cars::

1. Volks Wagen EOS
2. Mini Cooper or Country Man
3. Volks Wagen Sirroco
4. Volvo C7O
5. BMW 1 series Coupe (not convertable)
6. 2 Door Pajero? not sure if I should get a pajero again but this time 2 door..

I am only considering the above as they are all within my price range and I have managed to see them all in the showroom..I want a band new one from the showroom as i want to get an unused one with warranty, service etc..looking to get the 2012/13 model

Can anyone tell me if the above are reliable in terms of the following:

1. mechanical features - some cars come with certain electronic transmissions/features which I have heard can go wrong even when new..and does the warranty cover any mechanical/electrical issues?
2. AC - is the AC powerful for the weather here - I know the Japanese cars are but none of my new choices are Japanese
3. Safety on the roads being a small car?
4. Speed and pick up of the car - Pajeros are quite slow in pick up when at traffic light or trying to pick speed?
5. Comfortable ride for drivers and passengers?
6. Re-sale value?
7. What colours should I consider in terms of resale value?
8. How good and flexible are the service garages for the particular car?
9. Value for money?
10. Any other comments please?

Would really like your opinion ladies..

lots of love and hugs

xiana
