There is a lady who runs an export company here and is always cheaper than anyone else as she has lots of contacts and does everything herself. Can't remember her name but call one of the vets (try Vet hospital) and ask as i'm sure most know her.

I am taking my dog to the US. I took my dog to the government office by the airport. I paid the man 100drs and I was issued a export certificate. The man told me it was good for 30 days, it is written on the form that it expires on July 2nd. From all the websites I have seen it says it has to be issued with in 10 days. The other problem is the screw worn test needs to be done within 5 days of departure. The vet had no idea what I was talking about. Does it have another name? If I go to the KLM office in Dubai could they tell me if all the paperwork is correct. My DH is taking the dog and I want to make sure all the paperwork is correct. He didn't want to take the dog to begin with. And this would get him off the hook. JK! Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have done this twice. But to North America. She needs to know what the UK entry requirements are which I assume (and she should check with one of the vets in Dubai that facilitates pet relocation) include: vaccination certificates (in Canada, the Dept of Agriculture specifies what is needed and the dates, perhaps a pet passport for the UK to get around quarantine regulations and a blood certificate and microchip. The airline will probably need a vet cert and probably a UAE government (Dept of Agriculture again) cert validating good health issued within 10 - 14 days of travel - the airline will tell you what they need, plus all of the above for the UK - KLM is especially good at this.

I travelled with my pets as "excess baggage" they are still labelled cargo and travel in a climate controlled hold (again KLM, I won't fly with my pets unless it's KLM they are GREAT) but I paid as excess baggage which is cheaper than the cargo rate.

It takes a little time and running around, if you can do both it's worth it. If you can't pay the price and get quality service, it is also worth it.

My daughter is returning to the UK later this year, and is taking her cats with her.
She has been quoted quite a high figure to do the arrangements for the 2 cats, but has since been told it is far cheaper, and relatively easy, to do this herself.
Has anyone done this? Any advice re documentation? On the DEFRA website it advises that export paperwork from the UAE is necessary, but says nothing about import paperwork for the UK. Is there none to do, or is it something that you have to do on collection of your pet at the airport? Is it really far cheaper, or is it better to use an animal export company after all?
