Hi

My son had Lymphadentitis when he was 6 months old, sounds very similar to what you are going through, its swollen lymph nodes in the neck area, caused by a bacterial infection. He had a fever(because it was bacterial) and an apple shaped swelling on his neck, we were in scotland at the time, he was treated with oral antibioctics, no change so we were admitted to hospital for a few days for iv antibiotics. He had various ultrasounds and was due for surgery to drain what had formed as an abcess, but never needed it as iv antibiotics were enough, he is nearly 6 now and still has a small lump that will grow with him.
Sounds like maybe he had an infection enough to trigger the node but enough to make it appear swollen. As time can past the infection can appear as a lump but antibiotics at the later time dont do much to disperse the lump. Seeing a surgeon he might want to drain the lump/abcess.
wishing you all the best, keep asking questions, make sure they explain everything to you, write down questions incase you forget in the room. I am sure its nothing sinister to worry about, but i totally understand, i am a nurse and i was freaking out as we think the worse with swollen lymph nodes. You mentioned your child had bloods, tests and ultrasound and were all good, that is very postive.
Take Care

Didn't want to use alarming words like lymphoma, hodgkins disease but was also what I had been diagnosed. Really hope it turns to be nothing in your case.

Adrianat, definitely get it biopsied for certainty. Without that the doctors are taking an educated guess. Chances are it will be nothing sinister, but better safe than sorry.
My husband had enlarged lymph nodes around his collar bone for 2 years before finally seeing a doctor who took it seriously and referred him for a biopsy immediately. Turned out it was Hodgkins disease (lymphoma), and very advanced by then. Fortunately he is fine now, but it would have been much better, treatment wise, to have caught it earlier. I dont mean to worry you, as his lumps were nearer the collar bone (which, as I know now, should set alarm bells ringing at the GP surgery, but often doesnt). Neck may be nothing, but I would hate for anyone else to get fobbed off like we did.
Hope you get some reassurance very soon.

Maybe your story has nothing to do with mine but tought it might help....
As a yound adult I had an enlarged lymph node under the collarbone (and later echo showed few more under my armsplit). My mother - a doctor - thought it was not normal and brought me to a specialist doctor in internal medicine. I received antibiotics for 2 weeks which didn't help. If I remember well, lumph node started by reducing a bit but then was back to original size after only 1 week. Following this failed antibiotic trials a whole batch of test was carried (blood test, echo, pet-scan, synthigraphy and some more thnigs I don't remember) and aslo a biopsy (surgery) to diagnose the desease. I think nothing was really wrong in the blood test -just showing some kind of infection level. But it ends up my mother was right I had a bad lymphatic system desease. I had an heavy treatment for 6 months and I have now been fine for 15 years. As a doctor, my mother looked for a well recommended internal doctor and pushed to get an urgent appointment. It was a chance she did so as having the diagnostic early reduces the lenght of the treatment and increase the chances of recovery. Your doctor seems to take good care of you as you are following the same path (surgery = biopsy) and I really hope your child gets to feel better very soon.

Dont stop asking about it, as a mother feeling that something is still wrong then you should keep asking untill you get the answer that makes you sure this is what is happening with your child. make a search on internet about the lymph node and you will get a lot of information that migth help you understand your child problem. I always do that even after visiting a doctor, i urge to know more information than what a doctor told me.

Good luck, hope your child becomes better.

I am glad that we can discuss this with each other. I am dealing with health issues with my other DD (not the one with the enlarged lymph node) and the waiting has to be the worst part. Like your DD, my DD is in good health but tests show something not right so it is very worrying. All I want is answers and I can't get them and it is so frustrating. Sometimes you just need to get it off your chest.

The only thing that surprises me is that your DD was prescribed antibiotics. Mine has never been given antibiotics for her lymph node. Have you considered going back to your home country to get a second opinion? That is what I am going to do.

AnonDubai, thank you very much for your reply...
i would say she is a "healthy Dubai child"....meaning she is in nursery, therefore in contact with all known and unknown viruses ,allergic rhinitis and asthmathic bronchitis is not unknown to us....in the past 7 months i would say she has been sick often ,but not permanent..otherwise growing wel, normal percentile for her age, developing fine....

Im seeing a pediatric surgeon soon, i dont know what to do anymore...it is like a roller coaster,i see a doctor ,get some antibiotics prescribed ,hope it will be ok,then its not so back to terrible thoughs..

I can empathize with you although I cannot offer you any recommendations. My 4.5 year-old DD has had an enlarged lymph node behind her ear for more than a year and a half now. I have taken her to several doctors and they all said that it was nothing. I don't know why it hasn't gone down though! I just figured that if something were really wrong with her, it would have shown up by now. Maybe it is the same for your DD. Is she a healthy child?

Hi everyone.

I know that this might not be the right section of the forum i need to post ,but i was hoping the subject can be let on so i can get more advices.

My 3 year old DD has an enlarged lymph node on the side of his neck which is now there for 3 months now.Have been to a number of pediatricians who just prescribed courses of antib which did nothing for it. The blood tests show ok, the ultrasound showed more lymph nodes on both sides of the neck, the TB test was negative..still the lymph is still there ....waiting to see a pediatric surgeon soon, but meanwhile every single day i wake up with this feeling that im not doing enough .....and there is no pediatrician who can put a proper diagnostic..they all say to wait, which i cant do anymore...

Id love to hear from you with reccomendations, experiences ,anything...because it feels so bad when i get the answer "wait"...
