Admissions


TAISM is a college/university preparatory institution that exists for the purpose of serving students in grade EC1 (Early Childhood Year 1) - grade 12 in the international community in Muscat. TAISM utilizes the following criteria as guidelines for student admissions.

The student:
  • will benefit from an American-based curriculum in an English-medium environment.
  • plans to enter college or university in North America or Europe, or any English-medium institution of higher learning.
  • plans to transfer to other English-medium preparatory schools.
  • comes from an educational background similar to that provided by TAISM.
  • can perform in an English-medium environment from grade seven. English Language Learning (ELL) is offered throughout Elementary and Middle School, however intensive ELL is offered up to grade 5 only.
  • can be serviced within the academic program provided by TAISM.
Families interested in admission may apply at any time throughout the year by contacting the Admissions and Registrar's Office. The Registrar will arrange for an introductory visit to the school, provide the necessary application materials and schedule an interview with the Principal. Prospective families are encouraged to visit TAISM to see the program in action. The Principal considers age, school records and samples of student work to make appropriate placement decisions.



Application Process

All applicants to TAISM must submit the following for admissions review:
  • Application for Admission - completed and signed by parent or guardian, with one photograph of the student attached.*
  • Application fee - A non-refundable fee of RO 50/- (Rials Omani Fifty). **
  • A copy of the student's passport (photo page), or birth certificate if passport is unavailable.
  • Confidential School Report/Release of School Records - signed by parent, completed and sent directly to TAISM by previous school.
  • Official school records for at least the past two years, (records of grades 9 - 11 in case of a grade 12 applicant), must be forwarded directly to TAISM by the student's previous school. In a case where the records are not in English, an official English translation must also be submitted.
  • Applicants can provide an unofficial copy of school records, which may expedite the application process. However, an official copy must be received from the previous school in order to finalize the admissions and registration process.
Registration Process

Once an applicant has been accepted to TAISM, the following must be completed BEFORE the student may attend classes:
  • Fees: Payment of all school fees or a letter from the parent's sponsor in Oman guaranteeing payment of all fees.
  • Annual Student Health Record - to be completed by the student's parent or guardian.
  • Physical Examination Report - to be completed by a physician within six months prior to or no later than one month after the student's admission to the school.
  • Publicity Waiver and Acceptable Use of Technology - The waiver is to be completed by the student's parent or guardian. The Technology Use Agreement is signed by the student and the parent or guardian.
  • Request for Bus Service (optional)
  • We also request you to complete the Parent Volunteer Survey.
* Please note: A student will be admitted only if graduation can be anticipated by the age of twenty (TAISM Policy 7.201).

Campus

The School's expansive Ghala campus opened in August 2000. Additional classrooms and facilities were added in August 2002, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2010 to meet the growing demand for an American international education in Muscat. The new Donald and Eloise Bosch Center for the Performing Arts which will seat an audience of 550 is scheduled for opening in spring 2012. The campus includes 51 classrooms, 4 information technology laboratories, 5 visual arts studios, the Saud Bahwan Performance Hall/Drama Studio, 4 music classrooms and 4 small group practice rooms, 6 science laboratories, the Early Childhood Development Center, the Sur Library/Media Center, 2 English Language Learning Centers, 2 special needs labs, cafeteria, rooms for small group instruction, Health Center, 2 full-size indoor gymnasiums, fitness center, 25 meter competition swimming pool, outdoor covered sports courts, natural grass-surfaced FIFA regulation sports field, and 3 playgrounds.

Student Body

TAISM is a "Community School" authorized by the Oman Ministry of Education to serve expatriate children residing in Oman. The student body is currently composed of 710 students of 57 nationalities with students from the United States being our largest group.

After School Activities

The extracurricular program is an integral part of TAISM. We believe that student activities provide opportunities for creativity that enhance character, promote personal growth and augment classroom learning. Also, the extracurricular program makes an essential contribution to the lives of students and the climate of the school. Our program provides every student with the opportunity to participate.

Teachers and members of the community offer programs after the school day four afternoons a week for students in Early Childhood through Grade 12. These activities are usually eight weeks in duration. Generally there are four sessions per year. The school operates an Activities Bus at a nominal fee to assist in student participation.
