Dwayne Johnson & Billy Bob Thornton star in this classic retribution movie following the story of Driver (Johnson) in the days that follow his release from prison as he avenges his brother’s murder.
Thornton is type-cast as a grungy kind of guy; a veteran cop with issues, and also on Driver’s tail is an egocentric hitman whose character comes across as somewhat strange.
It’s a reasonable movie of its type with a decent storyline and plenty of action – shooting, car chases. Each of the three main characters has a back story which would have been explored in more depth in a novel, but the threads are cleverly laid and tie together nicely at the end.
Cinematography is good, capturing the dark and moody feel of the film which is played well by Johnson in the leading roll. Not quite at his peak form of Scorpion King – or maybe I’m just missing the loin cloth and body oil – he’s still added value for women in the audience. Let your husband enjoy the car chases.... ;-)
