EW Says This new 6 part series evokes a real sense of times gone by and is both tragic and heart warming as well as having great comedic moments from Miranda Hart as Chummy and Cliff Parisi (known for his role as Minty in East Enders). Jenny Agutter plays Sister Julienne ith great aplomb. It is a real treat of a program and will have you craving the era of simpler times gone by.

Call The Midwife is a new BBC drama set in London's East End during the 1950s, based on the memoirs of Jennifer Worth. The plot centres around newly-qualified midwife, Jenny Lee, and the work of midwives and the nuns of Nonnatus House, a nursing convent, coping with the medical problems in a deprived area of East London.

It has an all star cast including Jessica Raine, Cliff Parisi, Jenny Agutter, Pam Ferris, Judy Parfitt, Vanessa Redgrave and Miranda Hart.

Jennifer Worth SRN SCM (25 September 1935 – 31 May 2011) was a British nurse, musician, and the author of a best-selling trilogy of memoirs about her work as a midwife practising in the poverty-stricken East End of London of the 1950s.
