How Oman Celebrated Their 47th National Day

Oman celebrated their 47th National Day on Saturday, November 18th and it was spectacular! Streets were decorated with flags and buildings with posters of the Sultana, the day was a special sight of traditional music and dance and the night sky was lit up with fireworks.

Residents decorated their cars accordingly and shopping malls had exhibitions of dhows, frankincense and crafts such as pottery and carpet weaving to show the Omani way of life. Even the rest of the world joined in to celebrate Oman’s National Day with congratulatory messages from the UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, United Kingdom and Saudi Arabia.

Oman’s National Day celebrates the country’s independence from the Portuguese in 1650 as well as the birthday of Sultan Qaboos bin Said. National Day is a public holiday in Oman and is usually celebrated with parades, pageantry, equestrian shows, a marine festival, fireworks, and a military show every five years.

This year, Oman Air reduced their prices by 47% until November 29th to celebrate this special event. The Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque has been lit up with light decorations that will remain until end of the month and numerous Omani artists showcased their talents. There was even a National Day military parade at the Police Task Force headquarters in Wilayat of Seeb!

It was truly a very special day in the country!
