Sponsorships and Work Permits in Qatar

All expatriates require sponsorship - this cannot be transferred until the 2-year period is completed and the appropriate release letter has been obtained. Employees can sometimes work outside of the sponsorship for a limited period and with the written permission of their sponsors. Sponsors have to renew the work permit visa, but the primary visa holder must renew the family’s resident visas.

As Arabic is the official language ensure that all your documents bare the translation firm’s official stamp for it to be considered. The Translations Studio can assist with all translations, proof reading and editing requirements from English to Arabic. Learning some basic Arabic is always beneficial.

Essential documents:

• Several passport size photos
• Certified copies of marriage and birth certificates
• Original and certified copies of education transcripts from
country of origin
• Blood group Certificate

Registering as a working woman can be done on a husbands sponsorship. There is no need to obtain a separate residence work permit but a license from the labour department is required. The company offering the job must send the letter to the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs Labour Department providing information of the availability of the job and requesting permission to employ.

On receiving permission you will require:

• Original Copy of employment contract
• A letter signed by family sponsor consenting permission to
work
• Originals and photo copies of passports and ID’s
• Originals and copies of all Academic transcripts.
• 2 Passport sized Photographs

ID card

No labour cards are issued in Qatar. If you have a work permit, it is noted on your ID card. Your ID card will be issued with your residence visa. However, if you have entered the country on a family visa and you then decide to work, you will have to go through the process of fingerprinting again in order to apply for a work visa. You will then be issued with a new ID card, which states that you have a work visa.
