Bicester is FABULOUS. I buy all my clothes and shoes (plus all my makeup and skincare when they have it in stock) there. They are also great with Tax Free shopping. You just have to make sure you are there when they open at 10am (then stop for a late lunch at Carluccios or Villandry!) edited by pinks on 20/03/2011

For books you can't beat the book people. they have amazing discounted books and book sets. I use them all the time - excellent company. www.thebookpeople.co.uk
There are also stores that sell heavily discounted books. I can't remember the names of the stores but I am in the UK later this week and can check them out and let you know their names.
WH Smith in the UK usually have buy 2 books and get 1 free or buy one get another at half price offers - always worth checking out their website to see their offers before ordering from Amazon.
Bicester Village is well worth a visit. there's another big newish one near Southampton - something like gun wharf quays or something like that I know loads of friends say it's fab but I've not yet been......

The Ibn Battuta branch of House of Prose has moved to The Dubai Garden Centre on the SZR! I also read a lot and buy many books from Feline Friends at their monthly Friday book sales at Times Square, they charge about AED 10 per book!

We used to go to Cheshire Oaks quite often when in the UK, its a McArthur Glen outlet i think, they have loads of shops Gap and everything loke that and the Timberland shop was really cheap especially as my 2 teenage stepsons wanted them for school the same ones in the shops were £90 got them for £25 in there exactly the same.
Happy shopping,

I went in last week of July and it was full of Kuwaiti families but obviously all the good stuff had been picked out by fellow Gulf visitors. Great if you know and love designer brands like Dolce and Gabbana, Joseph, Alexander McQueen, La Perla, Michael Williamson, Cath Kidston (sadly I didn't like anything enough to buy), Petit Bateau, Ferragamo, Bally, Samsonite, Ralph Lauren, Ralph Lauren Kids, etc etc. Carry an umbrella, we got caught out by rain and there's very little rain shelter available. I left happy with a pair of Bally heels.

Thanks Ladies.
Yeah mpenny101, I use the book depository too. But I was looking for more tips on stores where they have ongoing sales, or second-hand bookshops that specialise in stuff like that - graphic design, typography, cooking/baking etc?
Also, does anyone know about outlet shopping in the UK. I've heard good things abt it, but dont really know if its worth the trip to somewhere at the back of nowhere? :o
hey Egg! The one is Batuta is called House of Prose and yes, it's awesome

Wow, mpenny, that's a useful tip, thanks, I never knew that! I've been ordering through Amazon and collecting my purchases from my parents when I go home, or getting some poor unsuspecting visitor to transport them for me. I will give Book Depository a go.

I rate http://www.bookdepository.co.uk/ for books. P&P is free, even to the UAE! Their prices are slightly more expensive than amazon when I've compared, but the free P&P make it far cheaper. I got 12 paperbacks for the part time OU degree I'm doing and it came to 60 GBP all in, plus they despatch each book separately which I prefer as there's no risk of your box getting redirected to Bur Dubai Post Office (which I've had with a large amazon delivery).

Hi there,
I use Play.com to order stuff from get them shipped to my dads address paying with my UAE credit card, i cant get electrical stuff though but books, DVD'S music Clothes etc no issues at all,
Pay.com have a permanent sale on i think i just got him to nring over a load of DVD's when he got here last week,
Another note though my DH uses Amazon for books and they ship here for him using his UAE card,
And another one, a friend of mine said there is a cracking second hand book shop in IBN Battuta Mall near Geant, not been yet but she said its really good.
Anyone else know any secrets i love books

Best bet for cheap books (providing you dont want new ones) is to buy them off ebay. Although, having said that, you'd need a delivery address in UK and probably a UK ccount so you can set up paypal (not sure on this one - I was living in the UK and had UK accounts when I set up my ebay account - still have it and just top up money when I need it).

personally I order from Amazon and pick them up when in the UK - are you from the UK or do you know anyone there that can take delivery for you? I've just ordered a load of DVDs which were on sale this week that I'm collecting in Aug when I'm over. HTH

Is there a place where I can find cheap/discounted books? I need A LOT of typography, design and cookbooks. Any recommendations?
