LOL !!! Big Grin
Unfortunately, I think they will be able to unwrap them or even hurt themselves with them on....Teenage boys....C'est la vie !

I have to had I prefer doing some round trips to the hospital and have some active kids than seeing them playing video games all summer, as long they are not too much injured, of course.

DS2 was happy to relax yesterday, and DS1 back on the snowslope, happy as he managed to do a "Board grab" and a 180....I'm happy to have caught him saying "I'll maybe try the big jump today" so I could reply "mmm, please, wait a little, you've just been hit at the head".what would have he try ? A 360 on the big jump ?

Life isn't perfect and when you get what you want, you have to take it all...

Tiki, hope your son gets better soon.

Thanks girls for the concerns. My DS2 is fine. Recovering. He is in "intense home observation" for one week. Then, we go back to a check-up x-ray to be sure the bone didn't move. If it's OK, then 3 more weeks in his giant sock, 6 months with contact sport (the hardest part here) and back to regular life.

I was back in Rachid hospital yesterday night because DS1 got hit on the back of the head by someone while snowboarding and got amnesiam, dizziness, amnesia, etc... We were there for 2 hours, CT scan included. The security man remembered me and helped me, then came to check if everything was ok while we were in waiting room, and the radiologist welcomed me with a big smile and "Hey Madam ! What happened tonight ?"....Same + Other doctors and still very nice service. Doctor in training (I suppose as she was asked how she will do by the doctor in charge) took some time to speak with us and my son about skateboarding etc... (!!!)
So yes, still great service...and next time, I bring tea and cookies !!

The center I speak about is "Rachid Emergency and Trauma center". While I was there for DS2 broken arm, several children, some around 2-4 yo were treated, and I assume one wasn't even 2. So I assume you can keep to contacts in your phone.
For the ambulance, since I'm in Dubai, I had to use them twice for my children, one in Motor city (kart accident - yes, we are active family) and this time we were in Umm Suquiem. Both we were directed to Rachid Hospital, directly.

Apricot, I am with you and will pray for you son. He will be fine very soon.

Hiccup - DS was 11 when he had his accident. I wouldn't hesitate to go there in an emergency.

Question - if I did need to call an ambulance anytime do you tell them where to go or do they take you to the nearest hospital with A&E? Fingers crossed I will never have to but better to be forearmed with the info!

hiccup, it's Rashid for trauma cases and Al Wasl for illness.

Another vote for Rashid Hospital. DD1 went over the side of the sofa arm straight on to her head when she was 3. We first went to Al Wasl, who directed to Rashid as it was a 'trauma'. When we got to Rashid, they were great and dealt with DD quickly. It was fairly busy, but we were in and out within and hour. I'm pretty sure that a private hospital would have run tests and kept her in but at Rashid she was assessed and they deemed further tests unnecessary.

Apricot, I know how you feel. DD2, having been born at Al Wasl, was admitted at 5 weeks with a high fever. To start with the thought it was an ear infection but it turned out to be caused by massive silent reflux. The ER were great, and most of the nurses were lovely but the doctors weren't very forthcoming and we had to fight with them to let my mother stay with me and DD as I was expressing for DD and she had to be watched 24/7. If you can speak to the consultant, they may be able to smooth some aspects, or ask, nicely, to speak to someone high up. They tend to go in straight lines and can't deviate for specific cases but DD was in for 3 weeks and it didn't cost us a fil. The follow up was good but my main complaint was that the doctors wouldn't admit that DD could die from the apnea (sp?) attacks - it was her private paediatrician who broke the news on that one. I had a heads up on Al Wasl though, as both DDs were born there.

Tiki and Apricot, I hope your children are feeling better really soon.

Tiki, I'm really happy to hear about the care given to your son at Rashid Hospital. My 18 day old DS2 is at Al Wasl right now. We took him into ER with a fever, 39C, when he was 8 days old. While the ER was fab (no wait, very kind pediatrician and nurses), the consultant and doctors on the pediatric ward are another story. They could learn a few things from the docs over at Rashid.

May I ask how old is your child? Wondering if they are equally good for toddlers. Mine is jumping / climbing too much and I am being a good mom by taking contacts and keeping them ready just in case Riiiight.

Another thumbs up for Rashid - DS fractured his arm last year and the service we received at the Rashid was second to none, well done the Rashid!

Tiki
I hope your son makes a speedy recovery.
Yes the Rashid Hosp gets bad press and usually from those who don't use it.
Their new trauma centre is 2nd to none.
For broken bones I would always go there first if possible. After experiences at City & Medcare it is back to Rashid for us.

My son broke his arm yesterday, while he was playing on the beach.

Then ambulance was indeed quite long to come, they have been mislead the first time.

But as soon as they were there, everything went fast and smoothly.
We arrived in Rashid Hospital, almost no wait, people started registration in the ambulance, admission took <>10mn and then we were in treatment room.
Nurses and docs were competent, nice, caring, and willing to make us as much as comfortable as possible.
Materials are top technologies (first time I saw in real an x-ray going directly on computer, with all file of my son in the computer, so easy and smooth follow up from one service to the other, from one team to the other).
Necessary exams were done, and only necessary exams, not all of others that we would have to pay and won't be so helpful (unless other private hospital I've been already....).

The pain of my child was monitored closely, so they could help with some drugs if needed but not giving him to much. Indeed, it didn't need any, and they just gave an injection for the x-ray so it won't be too painful for him, as he would have to move a little to get to there.

Attention was put on the fact he is a child so avoid any surgery or drugs as much as possible.
We were allowed to go back home and have a good sleep before coming back this morning - as they have a procedure that only the service meeting hold every morning is able to discharge a patient (not only the treating docteur).

Both doctors, generalist and orthopedic surgeon were nice, comprehensive of my child pain, trying to make him forget it while treating.
The orthopedic surgeon made us wait a little before discharging, while we already knew it was ok to go, as he explained to us very well what was the problem, what were the options to resolve it, what he wanted to do and what was the procedure. He excused himself for making us wait (again, we were in the emergency, and the service was vey busy). Big first that a doctor - even less a specialist surgeon - says sorry for making us waiting ! Even less in a gouvernment hospital !!!
We leaved their with a special number for my child that we will be able to used in any gouvernement hospital so they will have his files immediately, and NOTHING to pay, not even having to present our health insurance.

We were the only "westerners" there, and I felt quite bad. The service given to my son yesterday was absolutely great and with top people and technologies.
Personnaly, I think it was much better than an other hospitals, private ones, that I used to go....

I don't know the reputation of the Rashid Hospital otherwise, but definitely, I think this experience had to be shared and acknowledge that the service we had was awesome.

Son is home, immobilized for 1 month (So happy that we eventually are not going abroad for summer and that he can watch TV or play video games with me being upset)
