Music lessons: www.cmadubai.com (teaching piano, voice, guitar, cello, violin, etc.)
*There are also a number of independent music teachers around Dubai - check message boards in shopping centres or the community section of dubizzle. Pianos (and electric pianos) can be found at The Music Room, on dubizzle, and in stores like Virgin.

Writing and Literature: Open University? Check local universities. There are also writer's groups here in Dubai that can be found with a bit of googling.

Artistic Endeavours: DUCTAC www.ductac.org.

Dance: www.ductac.org

Languages: Eton Institute www.eton.ac

Driving a manual transmission / motorbike: friends, husband (!) or local driving school?

There are lots of resources here in Dubai, why regret not learning something when you can experience the joy of learning? It's never too late!

Edited because I apparently never learned to type correctly. Though I don't regret that!

Anything here not cost an arm a leg and a probable mortgage...

Anyone up for getting together to learn?

Now there's an idea....

Well, sign language isn't universal...you have to specify what kind of sign language you want to learn. For example, I learned American Sign Language (ASL) at a beginners level in college...but it's a different language than Japanese Sign Language, Australian Sign Language, and British Sign Language.

It was a shock to find out, and seems obvious now...but didn't make sense to me then. Whaaaaa?

Hannadina - a quick google didn't show me anything, but why not take a creative writing course online, and join one of the local writing groups here:

http://www.meetup.com/dubaiwriters/
http://elg.groupsite.com/main/summary

for more immediate feedback and moral support?

saying "I love you" to my relatives...

I say it to my children and DH...but I don't think I've ever said it to my mother, father or brother...or extended family for that matter. Just in my head and in my heart, but never out loud.

That's an easy one to start - do it tomorrow - I lost my lovely Dad last week and didn't get back in time to say goodbye to him but everyone has told me - it is OK he knew how much you loved him because you always told him so - I did always tell him how much I loved him and, in my heart, I DO know that he knew. Start telling everyone who is dear to you how much you love them just in case the same thing happens to you.

Awwww Claire...I'm sorry for your loss. And I know it seems like it should be easy/natural...but no one in our family says it. We even give weird awkward hugs when we say hello/good-bye. Our family just never did it... My brother and I try, but it's over 20 years of doing something a certain way (and even longer for my parents, as it's obvious they didn't get xoxo from their parents either). It's very much cultural for us. But don't worry, I've broken the cycle starting w/ my little ones. You gotta start somewhere...

Oh pretty much all the things my mom tried to get me to learn which I thought were boring and gave up on!

In brief i wish i had continued with; piano, cello, ballet (i guess I would be a lot skinnier now!), horseback riding, languages etc.

I also wish i had been braver and been able to sing in public - i had some great experience on stage when i was younger and wish I had been brave enough to audition for 'real' theatre.

Things i still want to do are; learn to fly a plane, learn to ride a motorcycle, and maybe i'll pick up on that cello thing and try to re-learn that...

So sorry for you loss Clairehdp. I am glad however to hear that you're able to take some solace in the fact you and your dad knew you loved each other. That's important.

Learning to Knit....
Dance - Ballet..Salsa (two opposite ends of the spectrum I know)
Play the Guitar - Learnt Piano till grade 5 but had a lousy teacher and then 'life' in the form of friends and fun came in the way of classes. Also the piano could not go with me..the guitar meant i had musical mobility, singa long at picnics etc...

Now if only we coudl rig up a barter system to learn new skills we would all have an exciting Summer! Or was that the purpose of this post????

so, you can imagine if i read a book that is not a studying book, it will get torn, even if it was the property of the school library...

so, i'm old to learn any thing, but i let my kids learn whatever they want to learn...

Oh Im sorry egykiwi.. but trust me !!!! Its NEVER too late to learn anything.. I see my 60+ FIL learning volumes and volumes of books and reading the latest of journals. and even a tiny morsel of knowledge if you present to him he would engulf with such enthusiasm you'd be surprised!!! Whaaaaa?
Now that you have the freedom , and once the kiddies start doing things on their own get out there and do what you've always wanted to do!! Be it the piano or roller blading!!!

My Mum made me learn the piano as a kid and I HATED it!
She didn't have the best of starts in life herself, and when our life got good she wanted me to be everything!!l
Flipping piano!! I got to grade 8 (which I think is quite high) but it was a chore - I have the smallest hands too!
My piano teacher was a concert harpist - now THAT I wish I could learn....
Other thing....I'm pretty good at riding motorbikes, but have never had a licence. As soon as I knew I was moving to Dubai I thought "Yay I'll get my licence and get a motorbike - day number 2 - NOOOOO thankyou!
