if there's no dry night, does that mean the bars will return to normal tonight, or will they only have music etc. from tomorrow night ??

Feeling grumpy again Akasha - just cos you and lots of others by the sounds of it aren't getting any extra time off no need to jump on everyone. Yes it may all all been said before - but EW isn't just for asking questions and hopefully getting answers it's also a place for posters to comment on their own experiences and share. Anyway to all EW's (especially Akasha) have a lovely Eid.

DH got an email the other day saying "Eid might start on Thursday if it does you have a day off" Yesterday got a memo saying "watch tonight's news if Eid is called you are off if Eid isn't called you are expected in work as usual" So can't plan, arrange anything and hey presto at 8.30 last night found out he had to work today (and won't be getting extra time off apart from planned normal weekend)

Ah those dastardly Dubai double standards strike again. We are all expected to live by the Ramadan enforced timings, rules, etc. but not by the Eid holidays. It should be standardised - like bank holidays. If it falls at the weekend you should get a day off in lieu if that was your day off anyway...

nope etislat used to always close down for these sorts of hols, doesnt mean that the private companies will follow suit, doubt very much. 29th ramadan was being ratified for private in Sh. Zayed's day, but this was never agreed when he passed away. its up to the private company. the first 2 days of eid will be paid hols, yes thats right, friday and saturday, so most people will be working sunday

Thanks Pinks - so, as feared no holiday unless private companies are able to use their discretion? As devil's advocate I suppose it is difficult for some mullti-national companies to support if their competitors are open for business. Shame no equality of treatment for all though.

All seem to be different... I've got friends who were on hols todayand tomorrow regardless, whereas my company said we'd have to wait for moon sighting tonight, hence we're in work tomorrow edited by pinks on 08/09/2010

I don't think there is a dry day for Eid.... I have this conversation with DH every year and he insists there is no dry day, and I do remember that he was right every year so far!
