Here are the details of the company she mentioned. I contacted them but they won't give a price via email as they want to visit and discuss my needs.

hi Eli1979 how's your cam now? is it working ok? if yes, can you direct me to maxcom where you bought it? whats the total cost? incl.installation? How does it work? How long do they take to install it? Im upgrading by adding 2more cameras to my present etisalat as we are moving to a bigger flat in the coming weeks. Also, the new flat doesnt have cctv in the hallway so I'll put my own near the main door. TIA.

Hey veekay. The guys came yesterday and did the installation. I must say the image quality is amazing. They are ip wireless cameras very small and stylish. The name is y-cam. Try google it and if you find the main uk site they actually have various test cams which you can log in to and observe the quality,etc. As for the price, we got a discount and free instalation as we bought 4 cams. We paid 1000 for the normal ones and 1250 for the night vision ones. Not cheap but they are very good with picture like image and clear audio. Very user friendly also. Can be accesed from pc,ipad,iphone,etc

Hi veekay.. he said the free Dyndns will only work properly if i want to access the DVR once or twice a day max..not sure if this is true ... I have configured the free Dyndns myself into the router but maybe I did something wrong as I did not manage to get acess from the web still..that's when I decided to call the so called expert... Anyway, as you might imagine the quality of the cams was bad and the image was shakey (wireless cameras). The guy from the store said the coverage was 40 meeters but I could not get decent quality from 20 meeters even...

@Eli
It is unfortunate that this happened. You do not need Dydns commercial license but home user one, which is free. I do not know the model of your router but most routers have in built dns server ( that is where dyndns is to be configured). If not you will need one computer running all the time. (If you decide that you will leave the computer on all the time ) then you do not need dvr / extra hard ware but only wireless cameras. free soft ware is available to run on computer. If your router has wifi then I do not see a problem here!. The software part of installing is about 30 minutes job Tops.

Do let us know how the max com works.

@Birchy..the shop number is BAK 08 & 09.Unfortunatelly we had to return the whole thing as i did not manage to have the network access fixed. The shop keeper recommended us a technician that would have solved the problem but when we called he told us our modem ( Belkin) was not compatible and that we would have had to replace it. There was another expense of 300 AED a year for renting a Dyndns and he was charging us aed 500 for the installation. Our router is brand new and expensive so I didn't want to change it. We really had to fight to get our money back so make sure you clarify everything before you buy it.
We then went to Maxcom and bought the good quality Uk made cams. Sometimes the cheaper option does not necessarily mean you will spend less .

hehehe..right..you never know Big Grin

so we went to Dragon Mart today and bought 5 wireless cameras with night vision and the DVR system used to access the cams from the web and record,etc.. We payed 2000 aed for everything. The problem is I have spent the last 3 hours trying to set up the network and it's a nightmare and the chinese style user guide sucks..

etisalat drains lots of credit and theres no recording capability. im ****** coz my DH is the one who is able to access only and he only does it very infrequently. i howver cant do anything as etisalat 3G wouldnt work in my office. idont know why 3G signal seems to be blocked from here. i would want to have the cam accessible via net.let me know what you are able to find.thanks

i just looked at the etisalat website and all I could find was the 3G Mobile cam that costs around 700 AED. That's not exactly what i want..I need the types that work over the web without the need of a sim card..I will just go to Dragon Mart later and see if I can find anything cheaper..otherwise the package from Sharaf should do , but still sooooo expensive ...

Etisalat has a camera where you dial a number and the camera switches on - ie. nanny cam. I don't think its expensive - perhaps a 300 AED max?
