Walk a mile in someone elses shoes and all that.

Very sad

I don't think anyone has forgotten their humanity...OP was having a bad day, and pms-ing...if the fella hadn't have shown up, she would have been just as cross. It's more the expectation of a tip as a 'right' that annoys people on some days, even if it is 'just' a dirham.

A taxi driver got an earful from me the other day, he was speeding, didnt help me with the 6 giant reuasable type shopping bags I had and persisted in delivering me to the house next door to my own, so I then had to lug tons of shopping down the street to my own place, in the sweltering h3ll like heat. And I'm normally the type of person who pays the driver double the fare for that kind of trip

I always let them take the trolley happily as one Dh makes a big difference in their lives in they manage to get 10 trolleys every day its like one third of what day make in a hole months . I was talking about it with my aunt today , when she asked me why I'm leaving the trolley in the middle of the parking instead of putting it back. Here its not that common to give tips and most of these workers don't make anything in addition to their low wages . It doesn't hurt to help with with such a small donation that gets lost in our daily expenses.

In the week I was up all night with toothache, I sat on my balcony and watched a fella working thru the night and was still working at 10am, I put a large bottle of water in the freezer to get it really nice and cold, handed it to him along with a 100dhs, you should of seen his face, he was speechless.

Come on it's not that hard to give a helping hand to the less fortunate.

Isn't it just a good feeling to know you've made someone feel like that.

I also tip the petrol guys ten dirhams every time

You do realise that at least one major chain of petrol stations here does not allow its staff to keep tips, don't you? The uniforms have no pockets so all money has to go into the official company wallets they carry, and it all goes into the company coffers.

I never keep the dirham from the trolley, I figure it is a tiny gift to whoever finds it, but then I also tip the petrol guys ten dirhams every time, these guys have such a hard job and I appreciate them! My husband calls me the patron saint of waiters and taxi drivers. My biggest tip is 100 dhs for a taxii, it is my version of charity, but having worked for one of the largest charities in the UK, I would rather help someone who is helping themselves, as opposed to paying admin costs for superfluous costs, like coffee and petrol for admin and marketing persosnnel!

Don't begrudge anyone a dirham as even when I take the trolley back myself (hate when people dump them mid carpark!) I tend to leave the dirham in so they can take it. But it annoys me more when they stand hovering round and let you load all your own bags, and then dash off with the trolley. If I am using an Ikea trolley they don't bother to follow me at all as they know there's no dirham, lol!

it annoys me when those men at the MOE car park run up to to help unload the car just to take the trolley away...especially today when I had only 3 bags in my trolley....I felt like smacking his hands away and saying " no!!! It's my Dirham & I want it back!!!!"
plus they were no where in sight for me last week when I so needed them!

but I couldn't possibly do that...I feel like such a scrooge lol....but today I'll blame it on PMT Big Grin Big Grin
