Thanks for the replies. I guess I'll go for Tanzania. I've been safaris in South Africa and Kenya before, so I don't need to see all the animals again. And I'm sure my mother will love it too.

I have been to both and if I had to back to one of them I would choose Tanzania. That being said a week can be a bit short if you want to do both a safari and Zanzibar. You can fly to both Arusha (for safaris) and Zanzibar from Dar El Salaam, when I went you could also fly between the two. You might not be able to go all the way to the Serengeti in such a short time but the Ngorogoro Crater is unbelievable and you'll be able to see most of the animals (no giraffe though)That said I enjoyed Cyprus too, just not in the same league but for a week it might be more manageable. I didn't like Nicosie (thought it was a bit depressing). I liked Paphos and the ruins around there and loved sitting on the beach near Aphrodite's birth place but it was a bit cool for the beach when I went.HTH
Tanzania is a beautiful country with warm and friendly people. Dozens of domestic flights take off and land daily between several domestic cities and no records of any mishaps unless you have a general phobia for short haul flights. You may consider Zanzibar which is a boat ride away from Dar es Salaam. Tanzania for me any time! You may contact their Consulate in Dubai or Embassy in Abu Dhabi for tour operators.edited by Moneybag on 07/03/2012

We were thinking to go to Tanzania in Juni but i could only flights to Dar el Salam and from there you need to take a domestic flight to Arusa. I'm scared about smaller airplanes to we canceled the idea. Same scenario for Zanziba. I would prefer to go to Cyprus rather than Tanzania. IMO easier to handle if you only have one week.
My mother's coming to visit next month and we want to take a holiday to spend some time together. I don't want to lose many hours flying as we only have 1 week, so I'd like to go somewhere close and where I haven't been before. My mom loves to be at the beach, so Cyprus sounds good. How easy is it to rent a car a go around the island? If we opt for Tanzania, we would do a 2 day safari and the Zanzibar. Any good companies you can recommend? Thanks a lot.
